... The old and angry cultures of the world, fighting for room to breath against the onset of globalization, would not go quietly into the homogenizer. Many of them would fight to survive, but fight in vain, for the tide of modernity could not be rolled back.

As in the great extinction of the tribes in late antiquity, individuals might save themselves from the incurable necrosis of their own ethnicity through adoption into the eternal people, that is, Israel. The great German-Jewish theologian and student of the existential angst of dying nations, Franz Rosenzweig, had commanded undivided attention during the 1990s, and I had a pair of essays about him for the Jewish-Christian Relations website. Rosenzweig's theology, it occurred to me, had broader applications.

The end of the old ethnicities, I believed, would dominate the cultural and strategic agenda of the next several decades. Great countries were failing of their will to live, and it was easy to imagine a world in which Japanese, German, Italian and Russian would turn into dying languages only a century hence. Modernity taxed the Muslim world even more severely, although the results sometimes were less obvious.

The 300 or so essays that I have published in this space since 1999 all proceeded from the theme formulated by Rosenzweig: the mortality of nations and its causes, Western secularism, Asian anomie, and unadaptable Islam.

Why raise these issues under a pseudonym? There is a simple answer, and a less simple one. To inform a culture that it is going to die does not necessarily win friends, and what I needed to say would be hurtful to many readers ...

In this world of accelerated mortality, in which the prospect of national extinction hung visibly over most of the peoples of the world, Jew-hatred was stripped of its mask, and revealed as the jealousy of the merely undead toward living Israel. And it was not hard to show that the remnants of the tribal world lurking under the cover of Islam [MP: and not Judaism? Zionism? This maniac is hoping his will be the only tribe left] were not living, but only undead, incapable of withstanding the onslaught of modernity, throwing a tantrum against their inevitable end ...

My commitment to Judaism came relatively late in life, in my mid-thirties, but was all the more passionate for its tardiness ...

... one of the last truly universal European minds belongs to the octogenarian Pope Benedict XVI. In 1996, the then Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger had said in an interview published as Die Salz der Erde, "Perhaps we have to abandon the idea of the popular Church. Possibly, we stand before a new epoch of Church history with quite different conditions, in which Christianity will stand under the sign of the mustard seed, in small and apparently insignificant groups, which nonetheless oppose evil intensively and bring the Good into the world." Painfully and slowly, I began to learn the classic Jewish sources. My guide back to Judaism was the great German-Jewish theologian Franz Rosenzweig, and my first essay on these subjects was published by the Jewish-Christian Relations website in 1999 under the title, "Has Franz Rosenzweig's Time Come?" ...

As a returning religious Jew, I had less and less to discuss with the secular Zionists who shared my passion and partisanship for Israel, but could not see a divine dimension in Jewish nationhood. So-called cultural Judaism repelled me ...

Both as classical musician and as a Germanist, I had better insight than most Jews into the lofty character of Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger, now Benedict XVI ... Ratzinger was kind enough to review and comment on the draft of one of my articles on music theory in the 1980s. There is a connection between Ratzinger's insider's grasp of music and his Fingerspitzengefuhl for Jewish theology - something I tried to express in an essay entitled "The Pope, the Musicians and the Jews" ...

The editors of First Things asked me for an essay on Franz Rosenzweig and Islam, which I published in 2007, and later a piece entitled "Zionism for Christians", which appeared in 2008 under the pseudonym "David Shushon". That was a milestone for me ... I came to know the magazine's editor Joseph Bottum, as well as such regular contributors as George Weigel, Russell Hittinger and R R Reno.

On January 8, 2009, the magazine's founder Richard John Neuhaus died. A few weeks later Jody Bottum asked me to join the staff of First Things as an editor and writer ... As a Catholic Jew I felt the pain that all Jews are feeling at this time. It may be strange but there is a sense in which Jews share in the joys and sufferings of all other Jews.

St. Louis, Mo. (Catholic Online) - As I write this here in the Hebrew Catholic Center in St Louis I am still in shock about the murder of the young Chabad Rabbi Gavriel Noach Holtzburg and his wife Rivka Holtzburg. In recent months I have been following the terrible persecution and killing of Christians in India by Hindu fundamentalists. The media hardly seems to mention what is happening. Now we see such violent Islamist terror attacks in Mumbai (or Bombay as most of us call it).

I learned on Saturday that one of the places attacked was the Nariman Chabad House in Mumbai. Then, we heard of the little two year old son of the Holtlzbergs being safe but that his trousers were soaked in blood. Then a Carmelite nun of Jewish ancestry sent me the news report of the death of the Rabbi and his wife. As a Catholic Jew I felt the pain that all Jews are feeling at this time. It may be strange but there is a sense in which Jews share in the joys and sufferings of all other Jews. As someone who has known many Chabad Jews and studied with Chabad Rabbis and been fed by them at Chabad Houses I felt it more keenly perhaps than some.

Rabbi Gavriel and Rivka Holtzberg were emissaries of the Lubavitch Chabad movement who gave up their homes and families in order to serve in far off India. They ran food programs, drug prevention programs, medical services, prison and hospital visitations and classes on Jewish learning among many other things. Now, this wonderful young couple, are dead and the world has lost two workers for the good and the light in a world growing darker.

While I didn’t know them personally I know others like them.

When I lived in Thailand I would attend the Synagogue and the Chabad House in Bangkok and I saw the dedication and commitment of the Chabad Rabbis and their families. I attend the huge Passover Seders at which everyone was welcome. They helped all in need not just religious Jews – secular Jews and non-Jews with no discrimination. Many Jewish communities around the world would have no Rabbis at all if not for the Chabad Rabbis who will go anywhere in the world to serve God and the Rebbe. For example an orthodox Jewish family I stayed with each weekend in the 1980’s assisted the Chabad in reviving the Jewish community in Tasmania that had almost died out.

They are known as the 'Black Army of the Rebbe' as they follow the teachings of the seven Rebbes of Lubavitch and especially those of their late Tzadik, Rebbe Menachem Schneersohn. A Rebbe or Tzadik is the spiritual leader of a Hasidic group who follows the way of love, joy, simplicity and mercy in worshipping God as taught by the founder of Hasidism - the Baal Shem Tov of the 17th century. The first Lubavitch Rebbe was Schneur Zalman of Liadi known as the Alter Rebbe and the author of the mystical book called “Tanya”. He took the ‘heart’ teachings of Hasidism and introduced a more intellectual approach called Chabad.

Chabad stands for Chokmah(Wisdom), Binah (Understanding) and Daat (Knowledge) which represents the Divine Face of the Divine Man in Jewish mysticism. The seventh and last Rebbe of Chabad encouraged many young people to give their lives in the service of God and Judaism by becoming emissaries (apostles) to the Jews spread throughout the world. Rabbi Holtzberg and his wife were two such young people.

I remember sitting in the 1980’s with Chabad Rabbi Finman in Melbourne Australia [who I was studying with] as he translated the Rebbe’s inspiring teachings from Yiddish into English for the whole Yeshivah. I was inspired that day as Rabbi Gavriel and Rivka were inspired by the Rebbe to give their lives to God’s service. The rebbe inspired in us a devotion to the Mashiach (Messiah). Now through the evil of others they have become Jewish martyrs and given their blood for God and the Jewish people.

I pray that their sacrifice will bring others to God and that from this tragedy will come good fruit. Let us pray for their souls and the souls of all the others lost in this terror onslaught and for their loved ones to be consoled. The Jewish custom is to say Psalms on behalf of the dead so maybe we could all say a Psalm for them too.

We call ourselves B'nai Baghdad -- a diverse group of US and Coalition uniformed service members and civilians stationed in the International Zone (IZ), known colloquially as the "green zone," an enclave in central Baghdad that houses Iraqi government officials, various embassies, military headquarters, and international aid organizations.

Orthodox Genocide

Here is an excerpt from an editorial written by a reform-minded Judaic attempting to persuade the Orthodox to reassess the rabbinic mandate to exterminate "Amalek" which endures in Orthodox Judaic teaching and in practice to this day:

... So, in the long-gone days of the Torah, there may have been a logic to waging an all-out war. Today, however, the practical application of this mitzvah [extermination of "Amalek"] in the eyes of too many fanatic believers has become an embarrassment, even a terrible one.

In our modern parlance, the Torah is commanding us to commit genocide.

If we were only speaking about theory, I wouldn't worry. But I know just how practical this command is for many people. They see Amalek as every enemy, especially the Arab-Palestinian one.

They see themselves as commanded by God, and intend to fulfill that command.

It is any surprise that Baruch Goldstein- of cursed memory – chose to erase the Palestinian Amalekites on Purim, the holiday which historically marks the victory of the Jewish people over Haman, a grandson of the cursed Amalek?

Simply put another way, if all the world is a stage, then the Jews - and especially those in the Land of Israel - are the lead actors on the stage of history, and the goyim - the nations, i.e. the gentiles - have supporting roles, while the evil-doers are props and background scenery. As our tradition states, G-D - the great playwright - created the world for the sake of the Jewish People, and it is our responsibility to implement the Torah - absolute morality and the blueprint of creation - in it.

Read the Purim story in Megilat Esther again, it is a rags to riches story on a national scale. Haman, the proto-typical anti-Semite, plans mass murder of the Jews and in the end pays with his life, the life of his ten sons - all hanged - and the Jews kill 75, 800 members of the anti-Semitic - i.e. Nazi - party of the time.

As I said earlier, of course this war is for the Jews and Israel, and instead of hiding from the accusation, or crying, "anti-Semitic slur", we should gratefully acknowledge what the Master of the Universe is doing to our enemies for us. Perhaps this Israeli's excitement with wars against "modern day Hamans" coinciding with Purim, the holiday commemorating the Jews' vengeance against Haman, can be understood in light of Judaic messianic prophesy:

Amalek, Haman, Ahmadinejad and Reincarnation

In the Book of Esther, the villain, Haman, is the minster of the King of Persia which is today called Iran. Here we see that the rabbis identify Haman as a direct descendant of Amalek, the tribe which the rabbis preach must be exterminated before the Judaic "redemption" can take place.

Shabbat Zakhor: (Heb. rvkz TYQ; "Sabbath of Remembrance"), the second of the four special Sabbaths. It is the Sabbath before Purim. The name derives from the additional Torah portion read from Deuteronomy 25:17–19 whose theme is the duty "to remember" what Amalek did to Israel. The traditional belief is that Haman the Agagite was a direct descendant of Agag, the king of the Amalekites (e.g., I Sam. 15:9ff.). (Encyclopedia Judaica, "Sabbaths, Special")

The above mentioned Shabbat Zakhor is the Judaic Sabbath that falls before Purim. It is mandatory for all Orthodox Judaics to hear the reading of the Parshat Zachor on this day each year when they are reminded to make war against "Amalek," directly connected with Haman, for eternity:

"... the Sages have prescribed the public reading of [Parshat Zachor] once every year, on the Shabbat which precedes Purim - so that the 'wiping-out' of Amalek might be adjacent to the 'wiping-out' of Haman, the latter being a descendant of Amalek."

In the last blog entry it was shown that Amalek was actually completely eradicated 500 years before Christ (1st Chronicles 4;43) by the true Israelites but that the rabbis have throughout history falsely labeled individuals and groups as "Amalek" and subject to extermination. The rabbinic doctrine of reincarnation (gilgul) was also briefly mentioned.

Let's look at a few recent examples of Judaic attempts to conflate the current President of Iran with Haman from the Book of Esther:

There is no end to the amount of homilies that rabbis will spin out of the story of Purim. Pending what’s in the New York Times that week, Vashti, Esther and Mordechai all become transformed into real-life characters. Usually this sermonic game ends up with someone asking, “So, rabbi, who is today’s Haman?” Usually this crude question engenders an equally crude but far more dangerous political answer. God knows how many people have been labeled Haman who, in other contexts, would be seen as a Mordechai. Rarely do we actually have a real breathing Haman standing right before our eyes.

More on Amalek

In the last blog entry we learned that the rabbis teach that Judaics bring about their "redemption" through their own actions and that the Judaic "redemption" cannot fully take place until the Tikkun of the complete extermination of Amalek.

The Jewish Encyclopedia further clarifies this concept:

... the rabbis say: "Never will the throne of God—the Lord of Truth, Justice, and Love—be fully established until the seed of Amalek—the principle of hatred and wrongdoing—be destroyed forever (Pesiḳ., l.c., and Targ. Yer. I. and II. to Ex. l.c.). Henceforth "Amalek" became the popular term for Jew-hater. (Jewish Encyclopedia, "Amalek")

We will get back to that thought on "Amalek" becoming "a popular term for 'Jew'-hater" but now that we know of the rabbinic mandate to exterminate Amalek as a condition for Judaic "redemption," we need to identify who exactly Amalek is. Who is it that the rabbis say it's necessary to exterminate.

Biblical Scripture speaks of Amalek as a tribe that waged war with the Israelites of whom God said, "I will destroy the memory of Amalec from under heaven" and of whom Moses wrote, "...the hand of the throne of the Lord, and the war of the Lord shall be against Amalec, from generation to generation." (Exodus 17;14-16) Needless to say, this is a far cry from Christ's teaching to love one's enemies, but such was the state of things prior to the true redemption through Christ's sacrifice on the cross.

But regarding the extermination of Amalek, Scripture indeed records that Amalek was completely destroyed to the last man in 1 Chronicles, 4;43, "And they slew the remnant of the Amalecites, who had been able to escape, and they dwelt there in their stead unto this day." This is circa 500 B.C.

Now, we have seen the quotation from the Zohar which dates circa 1300 A.D. which mandates the extermination of Amalek as a condition for Judaic redemption, but we have also seen from the Bible that Amalek was completely exterminated at the time of King David, more than 500 years before Christ. Therefore God's curse against Amalek has had no valid application for over 2500 years. Yet, the rabbis continue to wage war against foes they brand as "Amalek" 2500 years after Amalek was completely wiped out by true Israel.

There are many things to learn about the rabbinic tradition from this example. First, the fact that Amalek has been nothing but a memory for 2500 years doesn't discourage the rabbis from misappropriating and resuscitating the curse against Amalek for their purposes. Certainly, the usefulness of a curse as harsh as that placed upon Amalek--complete extermination under divine mandate--is stuff the rabbis salivate for. So, as usual, the rabbis turn Scripture upside down, in this case by drudging up a curse which Scripture itself put to rest 2500 years ago.

Secondly, we can see what machinations impatience inspires while waiting for over 1000 years for a "redemption" that will never come. The rabbis figure that since the "redemption" has not yet occurred, it must be because Amalek has not been completely wiped out yet, even though Scripture states quite plainly that Amalek was completely wiped out circa 500 B.C.

Thirdly, a vengeful, warlike people who believe in reincarnation are likely to see ancient enemies in populations presently living. The rabbis do preach reincarnation (gilgul) and they do preach eternal vigilance and vengeance against "Amalek."

Getting back to the rabbis' misapplication of "Amalek" and it's associated curse of annihilation upon those deemed "'Jew'-haters," which in reality most often means someone that the rabbis hate. Many individuals and populations have been misidentified by the rabbis and Judaic organizations as "Amalek" and slated for extermination throughout history. Some examples, in no particular order, are Rome, Christendom, Armenians, Germans, Arabs, Palestinians, revisionist historians, and noteworthy today, Persians/Iranians.

There is a rabbinic myth which identifies Haman from the book of Esther as a descendant of Amalek. This Purimspiel creates a false association between Amalek and people of Persian descent as the story of the Book of Esther takes place in Persia, today's Iran, which Zionist warmongers have been pushing to attack unprovoked for several years now. To those of a Kabbalistic bent, Iranian President Ahmadinejad is viewed as the reincarnation of Haman who was mythologized as a descendant of Amalek.

Judaic "Redemption" Comes Through Extermination of "Amalek"

Redemption is no more than the external manifestation of the inner state of tikkun ("restitution") which depends on the deeds of Israel and a realization of the way of life which the Kabbalah preaches. The main concern of Lurianic Kabbalah, as has been mentioned, is with the details of the process of tikkun ... certain concluding actions have been reserved for man. Now that we know that Kabbalism maintains that Judaics themselves bring about their own redemption (laying bare the self-worship of Judaism), it's interesting to note what conditions must be fulfilled according to Kabbalah in order for "redemption" to take place:

"But withal redemption will not be complete until Amalek will be exterminated, for against Amalek the oath was taken that “the Lord will have war against Amalek from generation to generation” (Ex. XVII,16). (Soncino Zohar, Bereshith, Folio 25b)

As a side note, Daniel Matt's recently published English translation of the Zohar has omitted this genocidal prophesy completely without even a footnote explaining it's absence. I can't imagine why. In fact, folios 22b through 29a are completely missing. It must have been the Christian censors! Ha! I shall be interested to see if Matt censors Zohar III 282a (which places Jesus next to Muhammad amid worms, dung, dead dogs and assess) from a forthcoming volume of his English translated Zohar.

Benedict XVI says that Judaic anticipation of "the Messiah" is not in vain. For the good of all of those unfortunate to be categorized as "Amalek" by the rabbis I wish that he would cease encouraging those psychopaths.

And for all of those who have been duped into accepting the Neturei Karta, Satmar and other anti-Zionist "Torah-true" Hasidim as allies, I would let you in on the fact that the Zohar quoted above is the "Torah" that they are true to.
