Talmud Study now Mandatory in South Korea

I recall hearing reports of this in 2005 from a person teaching English to schoolchildren in South Korea. This person also said that The Diary of Anne Frank is required reading in South Korean schools. The evangelists of double-standard 'Noahidism' in the East are primarily Chabad.

I suspect that much of this is based in awe and suspicious beliefs about Judaic power and wealth. Having nearly non-existant Judaic populations and little practical experience to base an informed opinion on, these people aren't learning real Talmud any more than 'Madonna' is. They're learning the P.R. version of Talmud intended for 'Noahide' consumption. The Palestinian people have much practical experience with actualized 'wisdom of the Talmud.'

As I understand, Judaism and Zionism are not as highly regarded in Japan.

The ketubah is a non-biblical, rabbinic tradition. Like so many rabbinic traditions, it overturns biblical law allegedly for the purpose of 'repairing' God's alleged poor judgment. Jesus Christ vehemently opposed these traditions of the rabbis which make God's word of no effect, but today this hard fact is brushed aside with such fluffy slogans as, “Jesus was Jewish, and we appreciate his culture, where he came from.” In reality, the people who sign these ketubot form a covenant not with God but with the rabbis in their millenia-old struggle to overthrow God and His word and to put themselves in God's place and replace His word with Talmud, Kabbalah and the 'Noahide laws' of Babylon:

In a San Antonio chapel last August, after reciting their wedding vows and exchanging their rings, Sally and Mark Austin prepared to receive communion for the first time as husband and wife. Just before they did, their minister asked them to sign a document. It was a ketubah, a traditional Jewish marriage contract.

The Austins’ was not an interfaith marriage. Nor was their ceremony some sort of multicultural mashup. Both Sally and Mark are evangelical Christians, members of Oak Hills Church, a nationally known megachurch. They were using the ketubah as a way of affirming the Jewish roots of their faith.

In so doing, the Austins are part of a growing phenomenon of non-Jews incorporating the ketubah, a document with millennia-old origins and a rich artistic history, into their weddings. Mrs. Austin, in fact, first learned about the ketubah from her older sister, also an evangelical Christian, who had been married five years earlier with not only a ketubah but the Judaic wedding canopy, the huppah.

“Embracing this Jewish tradition just brings a richness that we miss out on sometimes as Christians when we don’t know the history,” said Mrs. Austin, 29, a business manager for AT&T. “Jesus was Jewish, and we appreciate his culture, where he came from.”

Beyond its specific basis in Judaism, the ketubah represented to the Austins a broader concept of holiness, of consecration. “We wanted a permanent reminder of the covenant we made with God,” Mrs. Austin said. “We see this document superseding the marriage license of a state or a court.”

Cardinal hailed bishop for hiding predator priest: report

(Reuters) - A Vatican cardinal in charge of clergy around the world congratulated a French bishop in a 2001 letter for not denouncing a sexually abusive priest to the police, according to a French website on Thursday.

The letter posted by Golias, a critical lay Roman Catholic magazine based in Lyon, is the most explicit of a wave of recently published internal church documents in showing past Vatican encouragement to cover up sexual abuse by priests.

In the letter dated Sept 8, 2001, Cardinal Dario Castrillon Hoyos backed French Bishop Pierre Pican's decision not to denounce a priest who was later sentenced to 18 years in jail for repeated rape of a boy and sexual assaults on 10 others.

Under fire in recent weeks for its secretive handling of abuse cases, the Vatican has insisted the fact that other published documents did not explicitly instruct bishops to inform police of abuse did not prove it told them to hide it.

Vatican spokesman Rev. Federico Lombardi did not dispute the letter's content but said it confirmed "how opportune it was to centralize treatment of cases of sexual abuse of minors by clerics under the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith."

The then Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, now Pope Benedict, instructed Catholic bishops around the world on May 18, 2001 to report all case of clerical sexual abuse of minors to the Congregation, the top Vatican doctrinal office that he headed.

Pican, who received a suspended three-month jail sentence for not denouncing sexual abuse of minors, admitted in court he had kept Rev. Rene Bissey in parish work despite the fact the priest had privately admitted committing pedophile acts.

The case shocked France and prompted its bishops to declare that all abuse cases must be reported to civil authorities.

"I congratulate you for not denouncing a priest to the civil administration," Castrillon Hoyos said. "You have acted well and I am pleased to have a colleague in the episcopate who, in the eyes of history and of all other bishops in the world, preferred prison to denouncing his son and priest."

BISHOPS NOT REQUIRED TO INFORM POLICE

In it, the cardinal said relations between bishops and priests were not simply professional but had "very special links of spiritual paternity." Bishops therefore had no obligation to testify against "a direct relative," he stated.

The letter cited Vatican documents and an epistle of Saint Paul to bolster its argument about special bishop-priest links.

"To encourage brothers in the episcopate in this delicate domain, this Congregation will send copies of this letter to all bishops' conferences," Castrillon Hoyos wrote.

A staunch conservative from Colombia, the cardinal headed the Vatican department for priests from 1996 to 2006. From 2000 to 2009, he also ran a commission dealing with traditionalist rebels who broke from Rome in 1988 and were excommunicated.

He conducted the talks that led to the January 2009 decision to readmit the four banned bishops of the Society of Saint Pius X to the Church, which caused an uproar when it emerged that one of them, Richard Williamson, had denied the Holocaust.

The controversy was highly embarrassing to Pope Benedict, who said he did not know about Williamson's views, even though they could easily be found on the internet.

Two months after the incident, Benedict folded Castrillon Hoyos's commission into the Congregation and the cardinal retired.

On Thursday the pope said the church had to do penance for its sins, in a rare public reference to the pedophilia scandal.

It's worth recalling Ratzinger's talmudic attitude vis a vis investigation into the Church's horrific sex predator problem by am haaretz:

It seems, now that "the brothers in the faith" have pretty much all they need from the Vatican, there's little left to bargain with for media protection. I doubt Benedict's effeminate hand slaps can stem the outrage he deserves to face now.

I propose that "Church militant" "traditionalists" who heed the call to "defend the 'holy father'" against "his attackers" ask themselves a simple question: if "the holy father" is able to change ancient Catholic tradition and teaching to suit "the brothers in the faith" in a matter of weeks and months, then why, even after decades pass, is it not possible to protect the souls of Catholic children from sex predators in "the holy father's" employ?

Opus Judei Glosses on the Talmudic Novus Ordo "Offertory"

An "Opus Dei" priest by the name Juan José Silvestre Valór of "Opus Dei's" "Pontifical University of the Holy Cross" has written an exceedingly strained article which endeavors to "show the spiritual richness" of the "simplified" "Offertory" of the Novus Ordo Mass. "Simplified" is how this priest euphemizes the complete replacement of the traditional Offertory.

I call attention specifically to the cuckoo egg often described as "Jewish table blessings" of the Novus Ordo "Offertory" which are of talmudic origin. Reading the article, one might note that the author cites (mostly modern) supporting sources for nearly every point made, but when he arrives at the "Jewish table blessings" footnotes are absent and the artifice is at its height.

One might ask, can't this professor of liturgy at the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross and consultor to the Office of the Liturgical Celebrations of the Supreme Pontiff show us from scripture or some other authoritative source that these "Jewish table blessings" were part of the ancient Passover ritual as he suggests? And shouldn't he first establish the factuality of his suggestion that the Israelites recited these benedictions at Passover before claiming that they "anticipated the paschal mystery of Jesus Christ" and that "the definitive reality of the sacrifice of Christ interpenetrate(s)" them? On what foundation, other than his own ethereal prose, does he rest these mighty claims? None.

This is the "work" of "Opus Dei:" making that which is alien seem intrinsic. This is not the work of God. This is lying fruit from an organization whose title is itself a deception.

Newly published archaeological evidence attests to the fact that ancient Jews used human skulls in ceremonies, despite a strict Halakhic prohibition on touching human remains.

British researcher Dan Levene from the University of Southampton published findings in Biblical Archaeological Review about the human skulls, known as incantation bowls, some of which bear inscriptions in Aramaic.

The skulls were unearthed in present-day Iraq (formerly Babylonia) and are believed to have been used during the Talmudic era. At least one of them appears to be that of an anonymous woman.

"When I presented these findings in Israel, people told me, 'It is not possible that this is Jewish,'" said Levene. "But it is certainly Jewish."

Levene added that, despite going against conventional wisdom, the talisman was likely used by someone desperate, and that there have been past cases of skulls being used to ward off increased ghosts or demons.

"The fact remains that belief in demons was widespread at this time among Jews as well as other peoples," writes Levene. "Incantation bowls are known not only from Jewish communities but from other communities as well."

To combat demons - who cause medical problems as well as other mishaps and ills - people invoked numerous magic rites and formulas.

Rabbi Shlomo Riskin is launching an Orthodox center for dialogue with Christians.

Organizers of the Center for Jewish-Christian Understanding and Cooperation say it is the first Orthodox Jewish institution of its kind dedicated to theological dialogue with Christians.

The center, which is slated to open in June in Efrat, Israel, will host seminars for Jewish and Christian scholars and promote research aimed at making religion an instrument of peace in the world.

"A sea change has occurred since the Shoah,” Riskin, the chief rabbi of Efrat, told the Christian Post. “Most churches now teach that God remains faithful to His covenant with the Jewish people, and that the biblical promise is continually being reaffirmed by the Jewish return to its homeland in Zion."

Mukasey defends author of so-called torture memos

WASHINGTON (AP) — Attorney General Michael Mukasey is defending former government lawyers who drew up the legal basis of the Bush administration's use of harsh interrogation methods against terror suspects.

Mukasey told Boston College Law School graduates Friday that lawyers doing their part to protect the country in the aftermath of the Sept. 11 attacks should not now be held liable or face criminal charges for doing so.

Mukasey did not mention any specific lawyers by name.

Former Deputy Assistant Attorney General John Yoo is facing at least one civil lawsuit and demands for his firing from Berkeley Law School. Yoo worked in the Justice Department's Office of Legal Counsel from 2001 to 2003.

While there, he wrote several memos legally defending the use of harsh interrogation tactics which are now under criticism by human rights groups and members of Congress. Yoo's memos concluded that President Bush has broad, unfettered wartime authority that cannot be limited by domestic law or international bans on torture.

One memo defined torture, as recognized by U.S. law, as covering "only extreme acts" causing pain similar in intensity to that caused by organ failure or accompanying death.

An internal Justice Department investigation is now considering whether such advice was improper.

At the Friday ceremony, Mukasey lambasted critics seeking to bring lawsuits or charges against the lawyers. "The rhetoric of these discussions is hostile and unforgiving," Mukasey said in his prepared remarks.

Mukasey's confirmation as attorney general briefly stalled over the issue of waterboarding, an interrogation method simulating drowning that critics call torture. He has since refused to say whether waterboarding is illegal since it is no longer used by the CIA or military interrogators.

Justice Scalia to Address Agudath Israel Dinner

U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia will be the guest speaker at Agudath Israel of America’s upcoming 86th annual dinner, organizers have announced. The dinner will take place on Sunday evening, June 1 at the New York Hilton.

Justice Scalia, the second most senior Justice on the Supreme Court, was born in New Jersey and schooled in New York before attending Georgetown University and Harvard Law School, from which he graduated magna cum laude in 1960. He married that year, and he and Mrs. Scalia have nine children.

In 1982, President Ronald Reagan appointed Mr. Scalia to be a Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit and, four years later, nominated him to replace William Rehnquist as an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court. The nomination was approved by the Senate in a vote of 98-0. He took his seat on September 26, 1986, becoming the first Italian-American Justice on the High Court.

The example of your faith and your belonging is what helps me live and believe. Tomorrow I have to talk to a devout assembly of Christians. Well, I hope you know that when I talk to them about faith, about the power and grandeur of hope, it's you I'll be thinking about. It's your example I'll bear in mind.

"Esau" according to Orthodox Judaic tradition is Rome and Christendom.

The following is a quotation from an article from the aish.com Chabad Lubavitch website which explains this Judaic belief. I qualify this quotation by clarifying that the Bible does not identify Edom with Rome, much less Christendom or Roman Catholicism. This is, however, what the rabbis teach, and consequently, this is the foundation for the Noahide component of certain sects of Protestantism which associates Edom and Babylon with Roman Catholicism:

Esau, who embodies the power of might and sword, will, through his descendants, give rise to the Roman Empire or "Edom" as the Bible calls it. The power or Rome clearly lay its ability to conquer, dominate and build and Empire. Even after the decline and fall of the Roman Empire, the spirit and power of Rome will perpetuate itself through the rise of the West and the Empires of Europe. And, of course, it is the Romans (as in Roman Catholic Church) that converted the world to Christianity ...

As intense as the rivalry is between Isaac and Ishmael (the Jews and the Arabs) they are only half brothers. Jacob and Esau are twins with the same genetic material. This rivalry (Israel and Rome/The West) is understood to be the ultimate rivalry in history. This is nothing less than a cosmic struggle. These two -- Jacob and Esau -- started fighting in utero, and they're going to be fighting throughout history. The battle continues until today and does not end until the final showdown during the messianic era. It's not an even battle ever. Esau will always be stronger in the physical sense, but the Jewish people have inner strengths, resources and a destiny that will ultimately lead to their triumph ...

I will remind readers that rabbis who promote and are guided by this vengeful, racial-supremacist psychodrama, were honored by the "Christian Conservative" President George W. Bush two days ago, April 15, 2008 for their contributions to the world in "education," and that the Vatican cannot stop praising and making accommodations to Orthodox rabbis whom Benedict will visit in a synagogue tomorrow, Friday, April 18, 2008. Meanwhile, the traditional Catholic liturgy is altered to suit the sensibilities of the rabbis who on this evening will remove the leaven from their homes in hopes that "Hashem," which is to say, the so-called "Jewish" people themselves, will annihilate us.

The season of "Catholic" seders and various other mocking abominations unto God is upon us. The following article from Time magazine is an example of such.

Jesus was born to the tribe of Judah. He was not a Khazar and He did not subscribe to Rabbinism/Pharisaism which is exactly the idea that this article is intended to promote. It is intended to make us think that Jesus and St. Paul had a lot in common with the so-called "Jews" of our time who understand Jesus better than Christians ever did: Christians have not understood Jesus for 2000 years and we need the rabbis and their texts rotten with absurd fables, racial supremacism and self-worship in order to finally understand Him correctly. Pure delusion.

Re-Judaizing Jesus

Recently a popular blogger — let's call him Rabbi Ben — zinged the scholarship of a man we shall call Rabbi Rob. R. Ben claimed R. Rob did not "understand the difference between Judaism prior to the two Jewish wars in the 1st and 2nd centuries A.D. and later Mishnaic and Talmudic Judaism." He helpfully provided a syllabus.

Actually, neither man is a rabbi. (Sorry.) Ben Witherington is a Methodist New Testament scholar, and Rob Bell a rising Michigan megapastor. Yet each regards sources like the Mishnah and Rabbi Akiva as vital to understanding history's best-known Jew: Jesus.

This is seismic. For centuries, the discipline of Christian "Hebraics" consisted primarily of Christians cherry-picking Jewish texts to support the traditionally assumed contradiction between the Jews — whose alleged dry legalism contributed to their fumbling their ancient tribal covenant with God — and Jesus, who personally embodied God's new covenant of love. But today seminaries across the Christian spectrum teach, as Vanderbilt University New Testament scholar Amy-Jill Levine says, that "if you get the [Jewish] context wrong, you will certainly get Jesus wrong."

The shift came in stages: first a brute acceptance that Jesus was born a Jew and did Jewish things; then admission that he and his interpreter Paul saw themselves as Jews even while founding what became another faith; and today, recognition of what the Rev. Bruce Chilton, author of Rabbi Jesus, calls Jesus' passionate dedication "to Jewish ideas of his day" on everything from ritual purity to the ideal of the kingdom of God — ideas he rewove but did not abandon.

What does this mean, practically? At times the resulting adjustment seems simple. For example, Bell thinks he knows the mysterious words Jesus wrote in the dust while defending the adulteress ("He that is without sin among you, let him cast the first stone," etc.). By Bell's calculation, that showdown occurred at the same time as religious Jews' yearly reading of the prophet Jeremiah's warning that "those who turn from [God] will be written in the dust because they have forsaken [him]." Thus Jesus wrote the crowd's names to warn that their lack of compassion alienated their (and his) God.

A trickier revision for readers involves Paul's Letter to the Romans, forever a key Christian text on sin and Christ's salvific grace. Yet this reading necessitates skipping over what seems like extraneous material in Chapters 9 through 11, which are about the Jews. Increasingly, says Jason Byassee, an editor at the Christian Century,, scholars now read Romans through those chapters, as a musing by a lifelong Jew on how God can fulfill his biblical covenant with Israel even if it does not accept His son. Byassee the theologian agrees. But as a Methodist pastor, he frets that Romans "is no longer really about Gentile Christians. How do you preach it?"

That's not a frivolous query. Ideally, the reassessment should increase both Jewish-Christian amity and gospel clarity, things that won't happen if regular Christians feel that in rediscovering Jesus the Jew, they have lost Christ. Yet Bell finds this particular genie so logically powerful that he has no wish to rebottle it. Once in, he says, "you're in deep. You're hooked. 'Cause you can't ever read it the same way again."

Dershowitz and the Death of the U.S.

The last paragraph of this review gives frightening insight into the lawyer/rabbi mentality on Biblical and civil law. Thomas Jefferson, whom Alan Dershowitz pompously presumes to critique here, regarded the rabbinic tradition as a system of wretched depravity. Today, Jefferson is pushed aside by adherents to that system of wretched depravity who say he and the other founders can't be relied upon in the "post-9/11 world." This is no longer a nation governed in the spirit of the U.S. founding fathers and the U.S. Constitution, but a nation ruled by the Pharisees and the Talmud. This once great nation is dying a shameful death.

While the Justice Department sinks into a political bog, a victim of its own overreaching since 9/11, the nation's legal theorists are trying to find some firm ground in the global war on terrorism. In more than a dozen recent books, the liberal scholars Bruce Ackerman and David Cole, the more conservative jurist Richard Posner, former assistant attorney general Jack Goldsmith and others have engaged in a debate on the Constitution and terrorism that may someday be read as a riveting chapter in American intellectual history. For now, it approximates a trial being conducted out of court for the benefit of the public, in which the key question is whether we should allow the government to override long-standing rights and moral boundaries in the name of preventing terrorism. Can authorities now hold suspects without counsel, trial or even knowledge of the charges against them? Is torture justifiable, given the threats we face? Should the government have more leeway to eavesdrop on U.S. citizens?

Among the most prolific participants in this debate is Harvard law professor Alan Dershowitz, best known for defending unpopular causes -- Nazis marching through Skokie, Claus von Bulow, O.J. Simpson. In "Finding Jefferson," his eighth book since Sept. 11, 2001, Dershowitz focuses on terrorism and free speech. This time around, he has given us a slight, at times unfocused, often quirky volume that digresses into the Talmud, Aaron Burr's 1807 treason trial and Dershowitz's passion for collecting Yiddish postcards, baseball memorabilia, autographs of famous people and rare books. Though unafraid of straying from his ostensible topic, Dershowitz never wanders far from his favorite subject: himself. Nonetheless, "Finding Jefferson" is a thoughtful reflection on the "threat posed by Imams who preach violence" and whether we should make it illegal for such people "to continue to preach their hatred."

To guide this conversational inquiry, Dershowitz invokes Thomas Jefferson's "maximalist view of free speech," a view expressed not only in Jefferson's pardoning of everyone convicted under the draconian Alien and Sedition Acts, but also in an 1801 letter that Dershowitz bought a few years ago from a rare-book dealer for a sum he does not disclose. (In arguing that the letter is historically significant, the professor may be raising its potential price tag, though he does not appear to be interested in selling it.) The letter, from Jefferson to Connecticut politician and future U.S. Sen. Elijah Boardman, concerned a sermon by the Rev. Stanley Griswold, a pastor in New Milford, Conn., who had argued that although everyone is entitled to freedom of opinion, "the divulging of an opinion with the wanton view to excite broils and cause needless dissentions, or to influence others to do evil," should be forbidden. Insisting that "we have nothing to fear from the demoralizing reasonings of some, if others are left free to demonstrate their errors," Jefferson called for broad freedom of speech and disputed Griswold's contention "that the utterance of an opinion is an overt act."

Likening our era to the founding period -- in which John Adams and Alexander Hamilton "used the fear of 'Jacobins' and an invasion by France to justify enactment of the Alien and Sedition Laws" -- Dershowitz says that "many Americans today share Griswold's concerns" and believe that speech can be dangerous. "What if Jefferson had seen with his own eyes," he asks, "that a libertarian approach to dangerous speech in fact led to massive violence?" In that case, Dershowitz contends, Jefferson most likely would have changed his stance and preserved "the rhetoric" of an absolute right to free speech while accepting "the pragmatic need to compromise."

This hypothetical exchange may tell us more about Dershowitz than it does about Jefferson. Strong rhetoric about upholding civil rights, combined with an actual willingness to compromise those rights, is precisely what Dershowitz himself has shown in promoting the "torture warrant," his notion that courts could allow torture in a so-called ticking bomb scenario, when a suspected terrorist has information about an imminent threat to American lives.

But in the realm of speech, Dershowitz does not counsel compromise. Gently rebuking Jefferson, he holds that free expression is an act that needs to be protected even though words can lead to violence, not because they are harmless. He argues that we cannot predict the danger of speech with enough certainty to justify punishing it, and that censorship, which can easily go too far, poses an even greater risk.

In distancing himself from Jefferson, Dershowitz is making a point about the level of fear in the United States. He is, in essence, urging readers to think clearly about the risks we face in the modern world and not to expect easy, relevant answers from the founders. Citing a tale from the Talmud in which the rabbis tell God, "You gave us a document to interpret, and a methodology for interpreting it. Now leave us to do our job," Dershowitz sees a lesson for Americans. "It is now our responsibility to build on your legacy," he tells Jefferson, and we must decide the matter anew for ourselves, recognizing that "freedom comes with a price, sometimes even a heavy price."

Pope says saint preferred people live by, not applaud, his homilies

VATICAN CITY (CNS) -- St. John Chrysostom, a popular and eloquent preacher, preferred that his parishioners follow his teachings and not just applaud his homilies, Pope Benedict XVI said.

The pope said it was very important to this fourth-century doctor of the church that the applause his inspiring homilies generated did not mask the fact that the Gospel, not he, was the source of his stirring talks.

The pope made his comments on the occasion of the 1,600th anniversary of the death of St. John Chrysostom, former patriarch of Constantinople, now Istanbul, Turkey.

The pope's remarks, drafted in a letter dated Aug. 10, were made public Nov. 8 for the opening of a Nov. 8-10 international congress on the saint in Rome. The Vatican released to journalists a copy of the letter Nov. 8.

The pope wrote that St. John Chrysostom "lamented sometimes because, too often, the same assembly that applauded his homilies ignored the very exhortations (he made) to live the Christian life authentically" ...

Keeping that thought in mind, I offer one of many pertinent examples from St. John Chrysostom's preaching which Benedict lauds, but does not live by:

For if the enemies of the truth never have enough of blaspheming our Benefactor, we must be all the more tireless in praising the God of all. But what am I to do? Another very serious illness calls for any cure my words can bring, an illness which has become implanted in the body of the Church. We must first root this ailment out and then take thought for matters outside; we must first cure our own and then be concerned for others who are strangers ...

... There are many in our ranks who say they think as we do. Yet some of these are going to watch the festivals and others will join the Jews in keeping their feasts and observing their fasts. I wish to drive this perverse custom from the Church right now. My homilies against the Anomians can be put off to another time, and the postponement would cause no harm. But now that the Jewish festivals are close by and at the very door, if I should fail to cure those who are sick with the Judaizing disease. I am afraid that, because of their ill-suited association and deep ignorance, some Christians may partake in the Jews' transgressions; once they have done so, I fear my homilies on these transgressions will be in vain. For if they hear no word from me today, they will then join the Jews in their fasts; once they have committed this sin it will be useless for me to apply the remedy ... Believe me, I shall risk my life before I would neglect any one who is sick with this disease-if I see him. If I fail to see him, surely God will grant me pardon. And let each one of you consider this matter; let him not think it is something of secondary importance. Do you take no notice of what the deacon continuously calls out in the mysteries? "Recognize one another", he says. Do you not see how he entrusts to you the careful examination of your brothers? Do this in the case of Judaizers, too. When you observe someone Judaizing, take hold of him, show him what he is doing, so that you may not yourself be an accessory to the risk he runs. (St. John Chrysostom, Adversus Judaeos, Homily IV)

Contrast St. John Chrysostom's condemnations of Judaizing with the Judaizing of Benedict XVI in his address to the Chief Rabbis of "Israel":

With an open heart I welcome you here today, and express my appreciation of the fact that your visit intends to emphasize the positive results that have come from the Second Vatican Council's declaration Nostra Aetate, the fortieth anniversary of which we are commemorating this year. I see your visit as a further step forward in the process of building deeper religious relations between Catholics and Jews, a course which has received new impulse and energy from Nostra Aetate and from the many forms of contact, dialogue and co-operation that have their origin in the principles and spirit of that document.
