Robert Sungenis apparently believes that Benedict XVI was evangelizing a group of rabbis, European "Jewish" Congress members, and other Judaic power-brokers in his September 12, 2008 address to the "Jewish" community at Paris, France. I find this a strange conclusion to draw. These rabbis and EJC characters are so acutely sensitive and hysterically averse to true Christian evangelization of "Jews" that if Benedict actually was attempting to evangelize them it would certainly be detected and would not be tolerated for a second. These people can't even allow the minuscule traditional Catholic minority to pray for them in virtual seclusion on one day of the year.

If Sungenis wants others to believe as he does--that Benedict is evangelizing rabbis and their followers in the same spirit as Jesus Christ and St. Paul--he should offer some evidence that this is so. I haven't seen any. I have, in fact, amassed a mountain of evidence that the contrary is true--that not only is Benedict affirming the errors of the anti-Christ religion of Orthodox Judaism, he's also introducing these errors into the Christian fold; building deep relations between Catholics and "Jews."

But this is besides Benedict's sly misrepresentation of a Talmud passage which Sungenis apparently takes at face value. Sungenis writes:

"... the pope was quite correct in using the Talmud in his discussion with the Jews in France, for what he proposed to them from their own book about the Sabbath was precisely the same argument that Jesus used against the Pharisees. If, in some sections of the Talmud, it can be shown that the statements therein agree with godly principles and Christian truth, it is certainly appropriate to quote them to the people who believe they are authoritative, for you show them that even their own authority agrees with you."

This is a trap into which many investigators of rabbinic texts fall which is dismantled in Judaism Discovered. Benedict has presented only one side of a dialectical argument which does not represent the halachic synthesis. The Talmud passage that Benedict quoted is not authoritative as Sungenis assumes. The rabbis that Benedict addressed know this. Benedict himself cannot be unaware of it. The rabbis--from the time of Christ till the present day--run a Sabbath law tyranny that is as far from Jesus' Gospel teaching as black is from white. This is so patent that I can't believe it needs an explanation. Jesus and the Pharisees were conflicted on the man-made (NOT biblical) pharisaic Sabbath laws because their teachings were completely opposed. Rabbi-contrived Sabbath laws have only become more tyrannical since the time of Christ and they are authoritative.

No, Benedict was not evangelizing those rabbis. He was, as usual, creating confusion in the minds of his own followers by asserting a commonality which does not exist.

The real, non-biblical rabbinic Sabbath traditions, which "hang like mountains by a string" which Benedict lauds euphemistically and associates with Jesus Christ in his Orwellian address to rabbis and EJC-type characters in France who he calls "the children of the Promise, the children of the Covenant, beloved brothers and sisters in the faith" are elucidated in Judaism Discovered pp. 942-952.

In the Gospel Jesus and the disciples pick grain on the Sabbath, Jesus heals on the Sabbath and instructs the lame man who He healed at the pool at Bethsaida to carry his bed on the Sabbath. This was all contrary to the rabbi/Pharisees' tyrannical man-made Sabbath laws which Jesus wholly condemned. Jesus didn't praise the Pharisees for reading scripture on the Sabbath while overlooking their tyrannical, anti-biblical Sabbath laws as Benedict does here.

Furthermore, Talmud tractate Yoma, which Benedict cites approvingly, is filled with anti-goy legalism, notably, the double-standard of compensation for damages which the Soncino footnotes explains thus:

The Jewish owner of an ox which has gored an ox owned by a [Gentile], is not obliged to pay damages, whereas the [Gentile] would have to pay full damage, whether the owner had been forewarned or not. The Jewish owner of an ox who has gored an ox owned by a fellow-Jew, if not forewarned must pay half of the damage; if forewarned, full damage. (Babylonian Talmud, Yoma 85a Soncino footnote v.5)

Benedict XVI, a well educated man who is knowledgeable of rabbinic tradition, is perpetrating a diabolical fraud. He's attempting to create harmony between Mark 2;27 and Talmud Yoma 58b. If the rabbi/Pharisees who wrote the Talmud really intended that observance of Sabbath rest was subordinate to the needs of men, as Jesus taught in Mark 2:27, then why did they attack Jesus for healing on the Sabbath? Why do they--to this day--rule that Judaic doctors may not treat a dying non-Judaic person on the Sabbath unless it would cause trouble to "the Jews" to not do so? Why must "Jews" to this day not turn on light switches on the Sabbath, wash dishes, push baby strollers, etc., etc. ad infinitum? Why must they be roped into a rabbi-designated ghetto (eruv) to get some relief from the myriad of tyrannical, impossible to observe rabbinic Sabbath laws?

What a farce.

Dear friends, it is with great pleasure that I meet with you this evening. Our meeting auspiciously coincides with the vigil of the weekly celebration of the shabbat, the day which from time immemorial has occupied a significant position in the religious and cultural life of the people of Israel. Every pious Jew sanctifies the shabbat with the reading of the Scriptures and the reciting of the Psalms. Dear friends, as you know, the prayer of Jesus also was nourished by the Psalms. Regularly he went to the temple and the synagogue. There he too listened to the word on the Sabbath. There he wanted to underline the goodness with which God cares for man, even in the arrangement of time. Does not the Talmud Yoma (85b) say: the Sabbath is offered to you, but you are not offered to the Sabbath? Christ has asked the people of the Covenant to recognize always the unprecedented greatness and love of the Creator for all humanity. Dear friends, because of that which unites us and that which separates us, we share a relationship that should be strengthened and lived. And we know that these fraternal bonds constitute a continual invitation to know and to respect one another better.

By her very nature the Catholic Church feels obliged to respect the Covenant made by the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Indeed, the Church herself is situated within the eternal Covenant of the Almighty, whose plans are immutable, and she respects the children of the Promise, the children of the Covenant, as her beloved brothers and sisters in the faith. She compellingly repeats, through my voice, the words of the great Pope Pius XI, my beloved predecessor: Spiritually, we are Semites (Allocution to the Belgian Pilgrims, 16 September 1938). The Church therefore is opposed to every form of anti-Semitism, which can never be theologically justified. The theologian Henri de Lubac, in a time of darkness, as Pius XII (Summi Pontificatus, 10 October 1939) described it, added that to be anti-Semitic also signifies being anti-Christian (cf. Un nuovo fronte religioso in: Israele e la Fede Cristiana [1942]). Once again I feel the duty to pay heartfelt recognition to those who have died unjustly and to those that have dedicated themselves to assure that the names of these victims may always be remembered. God does not forget!

I cannot neglect, on an occasion such as this, to recall the eminent role played by the Jews of France in the building up of the whole nation and of their prestigious contribution to her spiritual patrimony. They have given - and continue to give - great figures to the spheres of politics, culture and the arts. To each one of them I extend affectionate and respectful wishes and with fervour I invoke upon all of your families and upon all of your communities a special Blessing of the Lord of time and of history. Far from being an esoteric teaching of rabbinic Judaism, the willing acceptance for responsibility for the Crucifixion of Jesus is openly manifested in times and places where Orthodox Judaic persons have dominance. It is not uncommon to hear differing variations of the insulting threat, "Take your Jesus down from the cross and we'll crucify him again," or, "If Jesus comes back we'll kill him again," or, "We killed Jesus and we'll kill you too."

Local Catholics, Jews unite at opening Hanukkah service

Two days after Catholics began their Advent season, the local Jewish congregation began Hanukkah with an interfaith first for the Coulee Region.

Bishop Jerome Listecki, head of the Diocese of La Crosse, addressed about 50 people at Congregation Sons of Abraham, making him the first Catholic bishop to speak at the synagogue.

“I am here with you this evening as a friend,” Listecki said, wearing a violet zuchetto that resembled the yarmulkes worn on the heads of Rabbi Saul Prombaum and others gathered. “In that friendship, I share in the confidence that together we might walk in a rededication to our freedom and mutual respect directed by the light that guides our path.”

The event wasn’t the beginning of the relationship between local Jews and Catholics.

In 1998, members of the synagogue, a Catholic parish and United Church of Christ congregation traveled together to Israel ...

The joint celebration was coordinated by Monsignor Bernard McGarty, a visiting scholar of ecumenical studies at Viterbo University, who also attended.

Prombaum, head of the Jewish congregation, led the people in Hebrew, English and silent prayers during the first part of the service.

“Praised are you, Adonai our God, who rules the universe, your word bringing the evening dusk,” the congregation said as Listecki, sitting in the fourth pew, prayed along. “You create day and night, rolling light away from darkness and darkness away from light.”

At the climax of the event, as snow continued to fall outside, Prombaum invited Listecki to light the center candles of four Hanukkah menorahs.

Then Listecki, Prombaum and David and Betty Hammes, a Catholic couple who in January will have been neighbors of the synagogue for 50 years, used the central candles to light the first of the eight Hanukkah candles on the four menorahs.

Prombaum also recognized the Hammeses with a brass leaf on the synagogue’s Tree of Life, and said they live by Leviticus 19:18, which includes the command to love your neighbor as yourself.

“We love you as our neighbors,” Prombaum said to them.

After Listecki’s address, he took questions, including one on the Catholic church’s position on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Listecki said the Vatican has tried to maintain itself as an arbiter and a broker of peace.

During his remarks to the congregation, Listecki said the Jewish-Catholic dialogue began in his life with a Jewish friend of his family, who read the Mourner’s Kaddish, a Jewish prayer, at his father’s wake.

And he referred to a Vatican II document he called a blueprint for inter-religious dialogue for the church in the world.

“Words on paper take time to develop and cut through the generations of inaccuracies and errors,” he said, referring to the document, Nostra Aetate. “But friendships are created in the shared experiences of life amid the struggles of our times.”

"Hebrew Catholics" see: Khazar Talmudists

First, let me make clear that I do not use the ethnic term, "Khazar" in a derogatory way as I've seen others do quite often. I use the term because it is accurate. Moss, Barrack, Schoeman, et al, shouldn't feel the slightest bit of shame in accepting their true ethnic identity. It is neither better or worse than Italian, Irish, German, Arab, etc., ethnicity. But "Khazar-Catholic" doesn't garner quite the prestige, nor does it offer the great potential for mischief that "Hebrew-Catholic" does, and there lies the crux of the matter.

Let's look at one example of such mischief from "Hebrew Catholic," Marty Barrack:

Rabbi Yeshua spoke and taught from a background deeply imbued with the Halakha, the whole body of Jewish law embracing both the written (Torah) and oral (Talmud) traditions.

He told Thomas, Jn 14:6 “I am the way, and the truth, and the life.” Halakha means, “the way,” as on a pilgrim journey.

Literally, halakha comes from the Hebrew root HLCH, which means “walk.” It derives from halakh, “he walked,” which refers to Moses and later Yeshua leading us on a pilgrim journey to the promised land. It applies the Written and Oral Torah, the Talmud, and the rabbinic legislation and commentaries to every aspect of Jewish life. Rabbi Yeshua said, “I am the Halakha.” [parenthesis in original]

Marty Barrack is babbling dementia here. Jesus Christ did not teach from the talmudic tradition. Jesus spoke as one with authority, the Word Incarnate, often quoting the biblical scripture which He authored. Christ condemned the man-made talmudic tradition repeatedly throughout the Gospels as the tradition of the elders which makes void the Word of God. Mr. Barrack is dragging his anti-biblical talmudic baggage with him into the Catholic fold and attempting to baptize a diabolical conjunction of opposites. But all the holy water in the world cannot sanctify what Christ Himself condemned.

Perhaps Barrack shouldn't be criticized too harshly when such luminaries as Alice von Hildebrand and high church prelates gush over "Jewish converts" of this type, bending over backwards to sponsor them and their Judaizing books, conferences and parish seders. The one Catholic writer who did speak against this outrage, other than Michael A. Hoffman in his pamphlet, The Role of the Merchants of Venom, Robert Sungenis, recently abandoned the example of Christ and the Apostles and censored himself in obedience to the demands of his Judaizing bishop, Kevin C. Rhoades, a preacher of the theology of mythical Auschwitz homicidal gas chambers.

Enough from me then:

The ... Jews ... omitting or scorning the Mosaic law and the prophets, follow certain traditions of their seniors concerning which the Lord rebukes them in the Gospel, saying: Why do you transgress the mandate of God and irritate Him by your traditions, teaching human doctrines and mandates? [Matthew 15;9]

Upon this sort of traditions, which in Hebrew are called the Talmud--and there is a great book among them exceeding the text of the Bible in length, in which are manifest blasphemies against God and Christ and the blessed Virgin, intricate fables, erroneous abuses, and unheard-of stupidities--they nourish and teach their sons and render them utterly alien from the doctrine of the law and the prophets ... Pope Innocent IV makes reference to the talmudic tradition that Marty Barrack is attempting to put in Christ's mouth; a tradition of erroneous abuses and unheard-of stupidities, which renders those who adhere to it utterly alien from the law and the prophets, the very tradition which Christ condemned with His mouth, as Innocent IV plainly states. But today's bamboozled Catholics are so charmed by these deluded Khazars, and taken by the notion that they have some kind of magical blood in their veins that they'd toss the entire Gospel to go along with the "Hebrew Catholic" charade. After all, these are "chosen people"! What a great prize for the Church!

What a joke!

Give up your pagan Talmud and Kabbalah--like my Celt ancestors gave up their pagan traditions--and come to the true Catholic faith. Give up your delusional "chosen people" myth and accept your true ethnicity. It's time that this farce was ended.

Neocon Establishment Runs Cover for Benedict

The liberal press loved JPII. The Neocon press loves Benedict XVI. Those who know John 15;18-20 will not be deceived by this Neocon puff-piece. Benedict and his papal rabbi-knights are "cleaning house" and "conserving tradition" in the spirit of Bush, Reagan and Thatcher whose legacy is invoked, a dead giveaway as to the style of "conservative" synthesis the author champions and sees in Benedict. The thread-worn "the 'conservative' pope is isolated among 'hostile' liberals" canard is also given another spin by Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O'Connor who recently pronounced that denial of the dogma of Auschwitz is a "sacrilege" HERE and who also has the support of the Grand Orange Lodge of Scotland HERE.

Consider this: clarification is expected soon on certain questions pertaining to the motu proprio, Summorum Pontificum related to the traditional Latin Mass at the request of many bishops, and coincidentally, many Judaic power-brokers. It is expected that the prayer for the conversion of the Jews from the traditional Latin Good Friday liturgy will be suppressed or entirely censored (and perhaps replaced with some "elder brother" nonsense?). The illusion advanced by this article provides a smokescreen that will allow Benedict to suppress the prayer while appearing to be an embattled staunch conservative who in reality, along with his "liberal foes," prefers the ridiculous, Kabbalah-based philosophic scribblings of Hasid, Martin Buber to the logic of St. Thomas. The reality is that the "isolated pope" and his "foes" preach the theology of the "elder brothers" and the doctrine of Auschwitz in perfect unison. Conservative vestments and smokescreens from the establishment can't cover this up:

Pope gets radical and woos the Anglicans

Two and a half years after the name "Josephum" came booming down from the balcony of St Peter's, making liberal Catholics weep with rage, Pope Benedict XVI is revealing his programme of reform. And it is breathtakingly ambitious.

The 80-year-old Pontiff is planning a purification of the Roman liturgy in which decades of trendy innovations will be swept away. This recovery of the sacred is intended to draw Catholics closer to the Orthodox and ultimately to heal the 1,000 year Great Schism. But it is also designed to attract vast numbers of conservative Anglicans, who will be offered the protection of the Holy Father if they covert en masse.

The liberal cardinals don't like the sound of it at all.

Ever since the shock of Benedict's election, they have been waiting for him to show his hand. Now that he has, the resistance has begun in earnest - and the Archbishop of Westminster, Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O'Connor, is in the thick of it.

"Pope Benedict is isolated," I was told when I visited Rome last week. "So many people, even in the Vatican, oppose him, and he feels the strain immensely." Yet he is ploughing ahead. He reminds me of another conservative revolutionary, Margaret Thatcher, who waited a couple of years before taking on the Cabinet "wets" sabotaging her reforms Benedict's pontificate moved into a new phase on July 7, with the publication of his apostolic letter Summorum Pontificum.

With a stroke of his pen, the Pope restored the traditional Latin Mass - in effect banned for 40 years - to parity with the modern liturgy. Shortly afterwards, he replaced Archbishop Piero Marini, the papal Master of Ceremonies who turned many of John Paul II's Masses into politically correct carnivals.

Cardinal Murphy-O'Connor was most displeased. Last week, he hit back with a "commentary" on Summorum Pontificum.

According to Murphy-O'Connor, the ruling leaves the power of local bishops untouched. In fact, it removes the bishops' power to block the ancient liturgy. In other words, the cardinal - who tried to stop Benedict issuing the ruling - is misrepresenting its contents.

Alas, he is not alone: dozens of bishops in Britain, Europe and America have tried the same trick.

Murphy-O'Connor's "commentary" was modelled on equally dire "guidelines" written by Bishop Arthur Roche of Leeds with the apparent purpose of discouraging the faithful from exercising their new rights.

A few years ago the ploy might have worked. But news travels fast in the traditionalist blogosphere, and these tactics have been brought to the attention of papal advisers.

This month, Archbishop Malcolm Ranjith, a senior Vatican official close to Benedict, declared that "bishops and even cardinals" who misrepresented Summorum Pontificum were "in rebellion against the Pope".

Ranjith is tipped to become the next Prefect of the Congregation for Divine Worship, in charge of regulating worldwide liturgy. That makes sense: if Benedict is moving into a higher gear, then he needs street fighters in high office.

He may also have to reform an entire department, the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity, which spends most of its time promoting the sort of ecumenical waffle that Benedict abhors.

This is a sensitive moment. Last month, the bishops of the Traditional Anglican Communion, a network of 400,000 breakaway Anglo-Catholics based mainly in America and the Commonwealth, wrote to Rome asking for "full, corporate, sacramental union".

Their letter was drafted with the help of the Vatican. Benedict is overseeing the negotiations. Unlike John Paul II, he admires the Anglo-Catholic tradition. He is thinking of making special pastoral arrangements for Anglican converts walking away from the car wreck of the Anglican Communion.

This would mean that they could worship together, free from bullying by local bishops who dislike the newcomers' conservatism and would rather "dialogue" with Anglicans than receive them into the Church.

The liberation of the Latin liturgy, the rapprochement with Eastern Orthodoxy, the absorption of former Anglicans - all these ambitions reflect Benedict's conviction that the Catholic Church must rediscover the liturgical treasure of Christian history to perform its most important task: worshipping God.

This conviction is shared by growing numbers of young Catholics, but not by the church politicians who have dominated the hierarchies of Europe for too long.

By failing to welcome the latest papal initiatives - or even to display any interest in them, beyond the narrow question of how their power is affected - the bishops of England and Wales have confirmed Benedict's low opinion of them.

Now he should replace them. If the Catholic reformation is to start anywhere, it might as well be here.

JERUSALEM: Thirteen Austrian bishops were barred from praying at Jerusalem's Western Wall last week by Jewish religious authorities when they refused to take off their crosses, according to Austrian officials.

On a planned visit on Thursday to the wall — the holiest place where Jews can pray — the bishops were given an ultimatum by the rabbi of the site: Either remove the crosses or stand behind a fence several meters (yards) from the site. The bishops refused the request and watched people praying from behind the fence, according to an Austrian official.

"They were a bit disappointed they were not let into the wall," said Arad Benko, spokesman for the Austrian embassy. "It was a disappointing moment." He said the bishops were not informed before the visit that wearing the crosses would be a problem.

Shmuel Rabinowitz, the rabbi of the Western Wall, said that while the site is open to all religions, worshippers are expected not to offend the sensitivities of Jews.

"Appearing like that at the wall plaza and at a meeting with me is insulting and provocative," Rabinowitz told the Israeli daily Maariv. "I told them that the pope didn't show up at the wall with a cross, but hid it."

On a historic visit to the holy land in 2000, Pope John Paul II prayed at the Western Wall, stuffing a prayer between the cracks — a Jewish ritual to ask God to fulfill a wish. Pictures show the pope wearing a cross while praying.

The 13 bishops were in Israel attending the annual Austrian Bishops Conference, held in the Holy Land for the first time. Led by the Archbishop of Vienna, Christoph Schoenborn, the bishops visited several sites, including the town of Bethlehem and Israel's Holocaust memorial, Yad Vashem. A Heartwarming Elder Brother Tale

Hatred of the cross and classification of its veneration as idolatry, asinine legalism, mercilessness, ... that's our rabbinic "elder brothers in the faith" all right.

... This reminded [Chief Rabbi of "Israel," Yona Metzger] of one of his last meetings with Pope John Paul II a few years ago and what unfolded as a result of that particular encounter in the Vatican. It was less than a year before the pope passed away and he was rather ill and somewhat infirm. Rabbi Metzger is tall—probably about 6'4"—and he was concerned that he would have to bow his head and lean in to greet the pope and shake his hand. The concern was that as a result of this movement he would be bowing down to the crucifix that hung around the pope’s neck, which would be an act tantamount to bowing to an idol, a halachically prohibited act. He sought the guidance of Rav Yosef Shalom Elyashiv on this matter, and the elderly posek instructed Rabbi Metzger to stand erect and just extend his hand directly to the pope.

Vatican Scholars Respond to Muslim Letter to Pope

The Vatican's response to the recent letter sent to the pope by 138 Muslim scholars on October 11 contains the requisite syncretistic prose, but upon consideration of certain stubborn facts it's quite plain to see that Islam would be required to give up as much of its identity in "reconciliation" as Christianity has while rabbinic Judaism maintains its tradition wholly intact.

The Vatican scholars congratulate the signers of the Muslim letter for distancing themselves from the Islamic concept of "umma" and making themselves "partners in humanity." However, religious dialog with "The Jews" has not been based upon the same contingency--that the tribe of "Jews," give up their separatism and assimilate into humanity. Far from it. The document goes on to reference the "difference," "problem" and "obstacle" of dealing with religious freedom in dialog with Muslims while the extreme intolerance and outright hostility of Judaism to other religions is never considered and at times has been insanely transformed into a basis for "hope for better relations." The Vatican scholars also praise the Muslim signers for distancing themselves from the concept of preferential treatment for the Muslim umma, while on the other hand, embracing the Noahide system of preferential treatment for "Jews." Further, it has been reported that the pope could not sign the Vatican response to the Muslim scholars due to "baroque" protocol. This excuse is ridiculous in light of the wreckage of traditional Vatican protocol strewn all around the monster called, "'Jewish'-Catholic" dialog.

Anyone who believes that this apparent syncretism is directed towards a "New Age" religion where all are equally blended into one is not keeping an accurate score.

A Common Word Between Us and You

"An Open Letter and Call From Muslim Religious Leaders" to leaders of different Christian Churches as a festive message on the occasion of the ending of the fast of Ramadan 1428/2007, and on the first anniversary of the 2006 "Open Letter of 138 Muslim Scholars to Pope Benedict XVI", is a highly significant event that we cannot fail to notice and must accentuate its importance.

Accordingly, as members of staff of the Rome Pontifical Institute for Arabic and Islamic Studies (PISAI), concerned particularly with relations between Christians and Muslims, we believe it is our duty to express our viewpoint on this document.

In an attempt to enter with an open mind into the dynamic of this event just as it appears, we would like to register all that we appreciate in the presentation and content of these pages. We are convinced of the good faith of those who produced it, purified by their lengthy fast during Ramadan. Our long and diligent association with the cultural and religious patrimony of Islam, as well as our regular contacts with members of the Muslim community enables us to take note of the originality of this gesture and entitles us to draw the attention of non-Muslims to it qualities.

Firstly, we were impressed by the broad scope of this text. Its breadth at the level of the signatories, one hundred and thirty-eight Muslim personalities from numerous countries of every continent, whose religious affiliations demonstrate a great variety. There was breadth also at the level of the addressees, all leaders of different Christian Churches, including twenty-eight named explicitly.

Partners with humanity

In the same line of observation, we highlight the extent of the area under consideration: Muslims, Christians, Jews and people worldwide. The authors of the letter do not seek refuge in a convenient one-sided protest on behalf of the "umma," but on the contrary, place themselves as partners within humanity. For it, they offer their way of perceiving its foundations and principles, accepted also by other communities, in view of its survival in an effectual and general peace.

The broad sweep of its perspectives is also a noteworthy feature of this text. Admittedly, its authors are interested in the fate of the present world, at stake here and now, but also in that of the 'eternal souls', a destiny determined elsewhere and in the future. This dual aim, at once immanent and transcendent, runs a strong and liberating current throughout this discourse.

Naturally, we are equally struck by the fundamental character of the issue in question: God and humankind. It is much easier to confine oneself to ideas that are all the more generous for being vague and general, than to call attention in this way to the urgency of God's rights and those of humanity that demand continual awareness and an active and concrete love from each individual.

We are also keenly aware of the special treatment that the signatories of this letter give to the supreme point of reference that under girds "the other" as Jew or Christian, namely, the dual commandment of love of God and neighbour in Deuteronomy and in Matthew's Gospel. This willingness to acknowledge another person in the deepest desire of what he or she wants to be seems to us one of the key points of this document. Only this can guarantee success in a genuine relationship between culturally and religiously diverse communities.

At the same time, we appreciate the way the authors of this text, as Muslims, see the proper definition of their own identity in these two commandments. They do so not by compliance or by

Politicking, but truly, solely on the basis of their proclamation of divine uniqueness, (al-tawhîd), the pivot of Muslim belief. Indeed, we acknowledge that the radical acceptance of divine uniqueness is one of the most authentic expressions of love owed to God alone. In addition, as faith always goes together with good works, as the Koran never fails to repeat, (al-ladîna âmanû wa 'amilû al-sâlihât : al-Baqara 2, 25), love of God is inseparable from love of neighbour.

Diverse communities

We are grateful to those who challenge us, thus underlining the agreement over the essential that underpins our diverse communities of believers, nonetheless keeping a realistic and bold vision in place. In effect, on the one hand, they do not erase the differentiation of our Christological options and on the other, they do not disregard the problem of religious freedom (lâ ikrâha fî l-dîn : al-Baqara 2, 256), which they consider a crucial issue.

This realism does not prevent them from having a positive view concerning obstacles and differences that remain between us. This means that faithful to the Koranic tradition that inspires them, they only see in it an opportunity for competition in the pursuit of the common good, (fa-stabiqû l-hayrât : al-Mâ'ida 5, 48).

Undoubtedly, this positive view of problems enabled them to avoid controversy, to surpass themselves, to shoulder and ignore their disappointment to a response that did not rise to their expectations in the outcome of their letter of 2006 addressed to Pope Benedict XVI.

Reading this document, we notice on their part the presence of a new and creative attitude relative to the Koranic text and that of the Prophetic tradition. This is in reference to certain historical interpretations, marked by particular situations that made access relatively restricted as far as the consideration of non-Muslims was concerned. In particular, we have in mind the general application they give to the Âl 'Imrân 3, 113-115 verses, relative to 'a staunch community who recite the revelations of God in the night season, falling prostrate,' that many commentators had up to then considered only in relation to Christians on the point of converting.

We are pleased to see that the biblical and Gospel quotations used in this document come from the sources and that explanations given are on occasion based on the original languages: Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek. This is evidence of deep respect and genuine attentiveness to others, while at the same time of a true scientific spirit. In this respect also, we note the emergence of a new attitude.

In conclusion, we wish to insist on the a priori positive attitude of the writers of this text in their interpretation of the three parallel passages in the Synoptic Gospels. They could have chosen a much more restrictive and minimalist exegesis with which the Christian tradition would have provided them without difficulty and of which they were surely aware.

Inspired by their attitude, we also would only hold to the maximum interpretation according to which the texts of the Koran and the Prophetic tradition do not only restrict to members of the umma the benefits that any good Muslim may lavish on his neighbour, for the sake of his faith in God and in his exclusive love for him.

Differences in our languages and in our hues, (ihtilâf alsinati-kum wa alwâni-kum: al-Rûm 30, 22), that is, our deep cultural differences, will be far from engendering suspicion, distrust, contempt and dissension in us, as it often turned out in the history of our relations and still is the case in the world today. Such a document encourages us to pursue our commitment with determination, so that these variations will be seen as signs for those who know, (inna fî dâlika la-âyâtin li-l-'âlimîna), that is, as the mercy of Our Lord.

Ukrainian President Victor Yushchenko is expected to ask Israel to recognize the genocide of the Ukrainian people in the 1930s by their communist government when he visits here in about two weeks, sources said. Israel is not expected to accede to the request, which has won the support of Jewish community leaders in Ukraine, so as not to damage its relationship with Vladimir Putin's government at a sensitive time.

... The Vatican's record label is orchestrating an online campaign to push a DVD celebrating the life of the late Pope John Paul II to move public opinion in favour of canonising him, MediaGuardian.co.uk can reveal.

The release of the DVD, which is being produced by St Paul Multimedia, the Vatican's record label, will be accompanied by a website, www.santosubitoonline.com, on which the faithful will be encouraged to register their support for his sainthood.

Santo Subito means "Make him a saint quickly" ...

"What better way to do it than by a music film like this and using the internet to push his canonisation?"

The DVD and online campaign are aimed at appealing directly to the young and the choice of British composer Simon Boswell was also a factor, according to Vatican sources.

His work features digitally enhanced recordings of John Paul II's voice alongside "trance-like drum grooves" and "trippy" images of the late Pontiff.

It is also a first for the Vatican because it has allowed Boswell to work musically with the Pope's voice, which is the copyright of the church, in some case altering its rhythms.

"The images, celebrating many moments from his life, have been digitally enhanced and are quite cutting edge," said Boswell, the composer of innovative soundtracks for films such as Hardware, Shallow Grave and A Midsummer Night's Dream.

On the DVD John Paul II is heard singing on at least two tracks. In one section he is heard recalling Isaiah's cry to "Go up on a high mountain" and to "Shout without fear" accompanied by images of the Pope not out of place in a rave video and also the kind of music not normally associated with the Catholic liturgy.

In another section of the DVD, John Paul's visit to the Auschwitz concentration camp is accompanied by a piece for solo guitar and strings and featuring his cry, "No more war".

The Pope DVD is released worldwide next month by Universal Video. Record company insiders say they hope to sell many millions of copies.

"They are marketing the Pope with the same verve that they would market any popular artist," one insider said.

The DVD release is also expected to be followed by a series of stadium concerts around the world, involving a full orchestra conducted by Boswell and featuring John Paul II as a virtual presence on a large screen. The first concert will be held in Milan near the city's cathedral ...

"Elder Brother" Rabbis: Catholicism is Idolatry, But Buddhism and Islam are Not

Here is an excerpt from the Jerusalem Post's Q&A with Rabbi Chaim Brovender in which the good rabbi explains that burning incense to a Buddha statue is not idolatry but entering a Catholic church is "problematic". The term Avoda Zara means "idolatry":

Q: I was recently on a business trip, and while I found the city to be very nice etc., I am a bit concerned. I visited an Asian restaurant, not owned by Jews, (Under the local Rabbis) There seemed to be active idolatry taking place. There was a statue of Buddha, where they had placed a large bowl of oranges and burning incense right in the entrance to the place. At the end of the meal I was served oranges (Possibly ones that were previously in front of Buddha) Is this place considered a "Bais Avodah Zorah" ? And can a Jew eat there?

A: Avoda Zara should certainly be avoided. For that reason going into a Catholic church (perhaps real idolatry) is problematic. However, Buddism is different. There the reference is to a great religious teacher called "the enlightened one". It is hard to imagine why this might be called Avoda Zara. This is based upon the ruling of the most authoritative "sage" of Judaism, Moses Maimonides:

"The Christians are idolaters, and Sunday is their holiday..." (Maimonides, Mishneh Torah, Avodah Zorah, 9;4)

“The Christians are worshipers of Avodah Zarah” (Maimonides, Mishneh Torah, Ma'akhalot Assurot, 11:7)

It may interest "Judeo-Christians" to know that while "elder brother" Maimonides strictly maintained Christians to be idolaters, he ruled that Muslims are not idolators:

"These Muslims [Ishmaelim] are not in any way idolators. [Idolatry] has already been removed from their mouths and their hearts, and they unify G-d in the appropriate manner without any admixture [of idolatrous beliefs]." (Maimonides, Responsa, 448)

However, this should not be taken to mean that Islam should be tolerated according to Maimonides. In fact, Maimonides completely forbids Islam under Judaic rule (Mishneh Torah, Hilchot Melachim 8;11). Christians and Muslims would be forced to accept the Talmudic religion for goys, the "Noahide Laws." Christians who uphold the Trinity and the Divinity of Christ would be executed:

"... a gentile who worships false gods is liable, [for the death penalty] provided he worships them in the accepted manner. A gentile is executed for every type of foreign worship which a Jewish court would consider worthy of capital punishment." (Maimonides, Mishneh Torah, Hilchot Melachim 11)

I hope that this may shed some light upon the monstrous terms "Judeo-Christian tradition," and "elder brothers in the faith" and the crazy notion that "Israel" is a bulwark against the decline of Christian civilization.

ALBANY -- It seemed entirely natural that Bernice "Bunny" Kahn used to refer to Bishop Howard J. Hubbard of the Albany Roman Catholic Diocese as "our bishop."

It didn't matter that she was Jewish, a supporter of Jewish causes and a member of both Congregation Ohav Shalom and Temple Israel.

Kahn, who died last year, was co-chairwoman of the Jewish-Catholic Dialogue Committee, an interfaith group that has been around for nearly four decades and has enjoyed Hubbard's imprimatur.

"The reason we got started and are still going strong is because of Bishop Hubbard's support," said committee co-chairwoman Joan Dunham, a parishioner of St. Madeleine Sophie Church in Guilderland and an organizer of a workshop this Sunday focusing on Christian and Jews in dialogue.

At Sunday's event, the Capital District Board of Rabbis will honor Hubbard for his 40-year commitment to fostering the Jewish-Catholic dialogue.

The dialogue committee took root in 1986 at an interfaith prayer service entitled "From Fear to Friendship" that was led by Hubbard and drew 1,200 people to the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception.

Recalled Dunham: "Bishop Hubbard apologized for the persecution of Jews by the Catholic Church. It was so moving that people wept and it became a turning point for the dialogue in this region."

As a result, the Capital Region is considered one of the best places in the country when it comes to Jewish-Catholic relations, according to educators from across the United States with whom Dunham has corresponded.

"The only other place that might be better is Los Angeles," Dunham said ...

The Albany Roman Catholic Diocese is sending Dunham and Kathleen Duff, co-chairwomen of the dialogue committee, to the Vatican next week for a conference on Jewish-Catholic dialogue.

"That's another example of Bishop Hubbard's commitment to this issue," Dunham said.
