Another Baby Dies of Herpes Transmitted Orally by Rabbi During 'Religious Ritual'

Dear reader, in keeping with Talmud-mandated tradition (Babylonian Talmud, Shabbos 133a-133b) the rabbis of Orthodox Judaism are cutting babies' penises, putting their mouths directly on the wounded penises, sucking blood from the penises and passing along whatever pathogens they may have in their mouths to the bloodstream of the babies whose immune systems are undeveloped resulting in infection, disease, brain damage and even death of the infants.

A two-week old boy died at a Brooklyn hospital in September after contracting herpes through a religious circumcision ritual that ignited controversy in 2005 after another infant died, the Daily News has learned.

The unidentified infant died Sept. 28, 2011, at Maimonides Hospital, according to a spokeswoman for the city Medical Examiner, who confirmed the death after a News inquiry.

The cause of death was listed as “disseminated herpes simplex virus Type 1, complicating ritual circumcision with oral suction.”

City officials declined to comment Friday.

It’s unclear who performed the circumcision.

In 2004, city health officials revealed that a baby boy died after a circumcision carried out by a Rockland County rabbi who specializes in the centuries-old, ultra-Orthodox ritual known as metzizah b’ peh.

Under the practice, the rabbi or mohel removes blood from the wound with his mouth — a practice city health officials have criticized, saying it carried “inherent risks” for babies.

In 2004, three infants circumcised by Rabbi Yitzchok Fischer were determined to have contracted herpes, city officials said.

Among them were twins circumcised in October 2004 after Fischer performed the religious ceremony known as a bris.

The sole purpose of non-Jews is to serve Jews, according to Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, the head of Shas’s Council of Torah Sages and a senior Sephardi adjudicator.

“Goyim were born only to serve us. Without that, they have no place in the world – only to serve the People of Israel,” he said in his weekly Saturday night sermon on the laws regarding the actions non-Jews are permitted to perform on Shabbat.

According to Yosef, the lives of non-Jews in Israel are safeguarded by divinity, to prevent losses to Jews.

“In Israel, death has no dominion over them... With gentiles, it will be like any person – they need to die, but [God] will give them longevity. Why? Imagine that one’s donkey would die, they’d lose their money.

This is his servant... That’s why he gets a long life, to work well for this Jew,” Yosef said.

“Why are gentiles needed? They will work, they will plow, they will reap. We will sit like an effendi and eat.

That is why gentiles were created,” he added.

Yosef’s Saturday night sermons have seen many controversial statements from the 90-year-old rabbi. In August, Yosef caused a diplomatic uproar when he wished a plague upon the Palestinian people and their leaders, a curse he retracted a few weeks later, when he blessed them along with all of Israel’s other peace-seeking neighbors.

January 3, 2010 – New York – Rabbi David Rosen, AJC’s International Director of Interreligious Affairs, has been awarded the Commander of the British Empire (CBE) by Queen Elizabeth II in her prestigious New Years honors list.

The CBE, one of Great Britain’s highest honors, was given to Rabbi Rosen in recognition of his interfaith relations work in the Middle East, and between the UK and Israel. He is the first Orthodox rabbi to receive the CBE.

In addition to his role at AJC, where he also serves as Director of the Heilbrunn Institute for International Interreligious Understanding, Rabbi Rosen is an Honorary Advisor on Interfaith Relations to the Chief Rabbinate of Israel. He also was a member of the permanent Bilateral Commission of the State of Israel and the Holy See that established bilateral relations between Israel and the Vatican.

In November 2005, Rabbi Rosen was named by Pope Benedict XVI a Papal Knight Commander of the Order of St. Gregory the Great for his outstanding contributions to promoting Catholic-Jewish reconciliation. It was the first time this Vatican honor was given to an Orthodox rabbi.

The Chief Rabbis of Counterfeit Israel have recently distributed a tract to all Israeli rabbis instructing them to teach Israeli Judaic couples to have more children and less abortions. The Jerusalem Post:

Chief Ashkenazi Rabbi Metzger told The Jerusalem Post that it was important to encourage fertility and discourage abortions, in part, to fight a demographic war. "I am sorry to say that our enemies are multiplying ... Rabbis have a role in encouraging their communities to have children and to discourage abortions. This story was repackaged for "righteous Gentile" consumption--with the above quoted key to understanding the essence of the matter wiped from the record--and distributed to Judeo-Churchgoer outfits, for example, HERE, and HERE.

The poor souls who read the "righteous Gentile" version of the story will likely come away believing that the rabbis are against abortion, which is false (see Judaism Discovered pp. 878-885), and that the rabbis champion the rights of all unborn babies, whether they be of Israeli or, say, Palestinian parentage, which is delusional.

This is a case of rabbinic situation ethics. The rabbis are faced with the stark reality that Israeli death-culture produces far fewer children than Palestinian culture (which we are supposed to believe is the death culture). The Palestinian birth rate is greatly outpacing the Israeli birth rate in "the only Democracy in the Middle East." Once there is a Palestinian majority in the Zionist state, even the pretense of Democracy will be disposed of. There is no chance of true democratic representation for Palestinians in "The 'Jewish' State." So, given the Israeli demographics reality, the rabbis, who in 'the diaspora' are at-the-ready with their halakhic loopholes for abortion, suddenly must rule against abortion--Judaic abortion, that is. There is no principle that the rabbis won't circumvented when "the times require it" HERE, and HERE. Such is the fluid nature of rabbinic Judaism.

ALBANY -- The sexual abuse case against a Loudonville rabbi now includes allegations he repeatedly slapped and kicked one 13-year-old boy and tried to get another child to remain silent.

Yaakov Weiss, 29, founder of the Chabad of Colonie and the Chabad Hebrew School, was initially charged in City Court last fall with sexually abusing the two 13-year-olds in 2007.

He was arraigned Tuesday in Albany County Court on a superseding four-count indictment that includes those charges, as well as allegations he tried to convince one of the two youngsters to lie about the sex abuse to his mother and police.

"Just say nothing happened," Weiss told the child on June 30 on Sycamore Street in Albany, the indictment said.

Weiss, who already faced charges in City Court in connection with the alleged incidents, was indicted Aug. 14. He faces up to one year behind bars on misdemeanor charges that include sexual abuse and child endangerment.

The rabbi pleaded not guilty before Judge Stephen Herrick as his family looked on from the gallery. Freed without bail, Weiss later exited the courthouse, his wife by his side and daughter on his arm.

The indictment contends Weiss took a far more menacing role two years ago.

It alleges that sometime between Jan. 1 and April 30, 2007, Weiss repeatedly struck one 13-year-old on the back on New Scotland Avenue, "knocking him to the ground and then kicked him in the leg."

The court papers say Weiss sexually abused one of the boys in June 2007 and the other between Nov. 1 and Dec. 31 of that year. The incidents allegedly took place in a facility at 340 Whitehall Road in Albany.

In both cases, the indictment alleged that Weiss had sexual contact "consisting of placing his penis in contact with said child's buttocks." The incidents allegedly took place inside a pool, called a mikveh, used by some Jews for ritual purification, according to his attorney.

The indictment said one of the boys sought advice from Weiss, his teacher and spiritual leader, on Sycamore Street on June 30 that year.

Weiss allegedly "instructed the child to be untruthful" and to "not tell his mother or the police about an incident where the defendant subjected the victim to sexual contact."

Arnold Proskin, the lawyer for the rabbi, told reporters the allegations are baseless. He said one of the alleged victims is related to another rabbi with a possible ax to grind against his client.

Asked why the case went from City Court to Albany County Court, Proskin said, "Press coverage," adding, ''I'm being serious. There's no advantage (to it)."

Weiss sent an e-mail to the Times Union last October, after being charged, calling the charges "100 percent untrue."

"This has been generated by an individual who has been antagonistic toward Chabad of Colonie from its inception and continues to be envious of continued success," Weiss wrote at the time. "This is his way of getting rid of us."

Weiss moved to the Capital Region from Iowa in 2004. He adheres to a branch of Judaism known as Chabad-Lubavitch, which is known for its work to get Jews more involved in their religion.

In October, Rabbi Yehuda Krinsky, chairman of Merkos L'inyonei Chinuch, the educational arm of the Brooklyn-based worldwide Lubavitch group, told, the Times Union the rabbi was suspended. He added it was in "no way whatsoever implicating him or an admission or a decision of guilt."

When the requested change in the liturgy was delivered, the Chief Rabbinate of "Israel" requested further clarification which the Vatican offered on May 14th, 2008 according to the ADL and AJC websites. The document apparently issued by Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Bertone makes clear that Benedict's prayer "is not intended to promote proselytism toward the Jews" but that it "opens up an eschatological [end times] perspective." Also, according to this document, the Chief Rabbinate and other modern Pharisees that the Vatican "dialogues" with the are heirs to the promises God made to Abraham; the rabbis and their anti-Bible, anti-Christ contrivance has God's blessing.

I write with reference to the Statement issued by the Chief Rabbinate of Israel in response to the publication of the Note of 4 February 2008, altering the Oremus et pro Judaeis prayer in the 1962 edition of the Missale Romanum.

In this regard, I would point out that – by means of the “Communiqué of the Secretariat of State” which appeared in the daily edition of L’Osservatore Romano on 5 April 2008, and subsequently in the weekly language editions of the same publication, the Holy See has clearly emphasized the Catholic Church’s firm commitment, especially in the wake of the Second Vatican Ecumenical Council, to promote and develop relations with the Jews through dialogue marked by profound respect, sincere esteem and cordial friendship. This commitment remains unchanged, especially in view of the spiritual links that exist between Jews and Christians.

As you have observed, particular prominence has also been given to a substantial and detailed article on the subject by Cardinal Walter Kasper, President of the Commission for Religious Relations with Judaism. This article appeared on the front page of L’Osservatore Romano on 10 April 2008, as a sign of the importance attributed to the text and the fact that what it says about the new version of the Prayer for the Jews in the 1962 edition of the Roman Missal is commonly held. Among other things, the Cardinal emphasized that a sincere dialogue between Jews and Christians is possible, on the one hand, on the basis of our common faith in the one God, Creator of heaven and earth, and in the promises made to Abraham, but on the other hand, through respectfully acknowledging the fundamental difference over faith in Jesus as Christ and Redeemer of all mankind. As Cardinal Kasper clearly explains, the new Oremus et pro Judaeis is not intended to promote proselytism toward the Jews, and it opens up an eschatological perspective. Christians, however, cannot but bear witness to their faith, in full and total respect for the freedom of others, and this leads them also to pray that all will come to recognize Christ.

Likewise, on his recent visit to the United States of America, the Holy Father gave a number of indications of his sentiments towards the Jews. Indeed, after meeting the representatives of various religions, the Pope particularly wanted to receive a group of Jewish religious leaders in order to hand over to them a special Message on the occasion of the great feast of Pesah, devoted to celebrating the great marvels that Almighty God has worked for his people.

In New York, His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI visited a synagogue in order to meet personally a Jewish community whose Rabbi was a survivor from the Nazi extermination camps. He wanted to manifest his sympathy, affection and closeness to the Jewish people, and to demonstrate, through a tangible and special gesture, the Holy See’s commitment to respectful and loving dialogue, which leads to ever deeper relations of friendship and understanding.

In the hope that this letter may serve to dispel any remaining doubt on the part of the Chief Rabbinate over the Catholic Church’s stance towards the Jewish people and over the intentions behind the alteration of the Oremus et pro Judaeis of the 1962 Missale Romanum, I remain

The fight over the saintly rabbi

"Going to Rashbi?" asks the voice in the ad on the ultra-Orthodox radio station, using the Hebrew acronym for Rabbi Shimon Bar Yohai. The voice is advertising a car rental company that is offering a special deal for Lag Ba'omer.

The same question is being asked by bus companies, hotels and bed-and-breakfasts in the north, charities, small and big businessmen, beggars, politicians, admors (leaders of Hasidic sects) and movers and shakers. They know that every year more and more people "go to Rashbi," including thousands who fly in from abroad especially for the occasion.

Last year there were 400,000 to 500,000 celebrants around the tomb of Rabbi Shimon Bar Yohai on the slopes of Mount Meron, and the same number is expected this year too. Up north, they say that there is no greater event on the yearly work calendar of the Israel Police.

"From year to year, the number of pilgrims increases," says Rabbi Mordechai Halperin, the chairman of the Meron Committee, which has been overseeing the commemoration for 30 years. "Once the haredim were a minority, and the majority were people of Middle Eastern origin. Today Jews of all kinds still come, but the overwhelming majority are haredim."

At the National Center for Managing Holy Sites, they say that that the tomb is among the most visited sites in Israel, second only to the Western Wall. Approximately one million visitors come there throughout the year. The 33rd day of the counting of the Omer is, according to the Mishnah, the day when the plague - which struck down 24,000 of Rabbi Akiva's students during the revolt against Rome - stopped. On this day, the customs of mourning that are in effect since the end of Passover stop.

But the main hero of the event is Rabbi Shimon Bar Yohai, the tanna - rabbi from the Mishnaic period - who died on that day, according to a later tradition. As the one who wrote, according to tradition, most of the book of the Zohar - the book of Kabbalah - Bar Yohai is considered the father of Jewish mysticism. There is only one mystery Rashbi did not reveal: who is responsible for his gravesite?

Different organizations have been fighting for years for control over the site. They are motivated of course not only by a yearning to cling to the righteous man's holiness, but also by a desire to have some of the substantial amounts of money the place brings in each year cling to them.

According to Yossi Shvinger, the director general of the National Center for Managing Holy Sites, the alms boxes placed there bring in NIS 2.5 to NIS 3 million shekels [roughly 1 million USD] a year for the different charitable trusts. But because there is a serious dispute among them - which has been through the rabbinical courts and the civil courts - the site is neglected.

At the forefront of the fight are two charitable trusts, Sephardic and Ashkenazic, and each one claims to have possession of the site. Even the state has joined the fray in recent years, in an attempt to transfer the site to its possession.

All parties agree that the disputes are the reason for the site's neglect, and also for the strange fact that the one entity forced in practice to run the Rashbi commemoration is the Israel Police.

Last week, the Supreme Court decided to hand over the site to the state's management, at least temporarily. The judges ruled that a committee be set up to run the site headed by a representative of the state, whose members would include four members of the charitable trusts.

"This is a dramatic decision," explains Rabbi Shmuel Rabinowitz, the rabbi of the Western Wall and the Holy Sites, who welcomes the decision.

For the first time, the fate of the gravesite in Meron is being determined by a secular court, and will be handed over to the management of the secular state, instead of rabbinical courts and religious organizations.

"The court's decision could lead to a dramatic change," says Rabinowitz. "Today there is anarchy. Just recently they completed construction here of a 300 sq. meter auditorium, with no building permit and no responsibility taken for it."

Ostensibly, the ones who should have been the first to cry out against the Supreme Court decision are the anti-Zionist ultra-Orthodox factions, who also venerate the tomb of Rashbi as the focal point of their rite. Meron, unlike the Western Wall - which some of them refrain from visiting because it was captured in 1967 by the Zionist army - was always considered a legitimate place.

But according to Shvinger, the zealous Eida Haredit is the state's last problem. "On a day-to-day level there is full cooperation with the Eida Haredit, even though we are an executive arm of the state. They want the state to assume the management of the site."

The one who is actually protesting is Rabbi Shmuel Eliahu, rabbi of Safed and the son of Rabbi Mordechai Eliahu, who is in charge of the Sephardic charitable trust.

"The plot where the actual grave is located belongs to us, and there's no argument over this," said Eliahu. "It's a 500-year-old religious trust founded by the people of Safed during the time of Rabbi Joseph Karo. I don't think there is any blessing in a place that the state touches. The state is clerks who come at eight o'clock in the morning and leave at five, and the fact is, it hasn't invested a shekel in the place.

"If the state is not investing a shekel, can it then come with complaints? The sums collected in the charity boxes are not enough to cover maintenance of the site," says Eliahu, who claims that the amount collected is only one million shekels. "The fact that this event nevertheless takes place every year is due to the merit of Rabbi Shimon. It's a miracle."

Orthodox Jews set fire to hundreds of copies of the New Testament in the latest act of violence against Christian missionaries in the Holy Land.

Or Yehuda Deputy Mayor Uzi Aharon said missionaries recently entered a neighborhood in the predominantly religious town of 34,000 in central Israel, distributing hundreds of New Testaments and missionary material.

After receiving complaints, Aharon said, he got into a loudspeaker car last Thursday and drove through the neighborhood, urging people to turn over the material to Jewish religious students who went door to door to collect it.

"The books were dumped into a pile and set afire in a lot near a synagogue," he said.

The newspaper Maariv reported Tuesday that hundreds of yeshiva students took part in the book-burning. But Aharon told The Associated Press that only a few students were present, and that he was not there when the books were torched.

"Not all of the New Testaments that were collected were burned, but hundreds were," he said.

He said he regretted the burning of the books, but called it a commandment to burn materials that urge Jews to convert.

"I certainly don't denounce the burning of the booklets, he said. I denounce those who distributed the booklets."

Jews worship from the Old Testament, including the Five Books of Moses and the writings of the ancient prophets. Christians revere the Old Testament as well as the New Testament, which contains the ministry of Jesus.

Calev Myers, an attorney who represents Messianic Jews, or Jews who accept Jesus as their savior, demanded in an interview with Army Radio that all those involved be put on trial. He estimated there were 10,000 Messianic Jews, who are also known as Jews for Jesus, in Israel.

Police had no immediate comment.

Israeli authorities and Orthodox Jews frown on missionary activity aimed at Jews, though in most cases it is not illegal. Still, the concept of a Jew burning books is abhorrent to many in Israel because of the association with Nazis torching piles of Jewish books during the Holocaust of World War II.

Earlier this year, the teenage son of a prominent Christian missionary was seriously wounded when a package bomb delivered to the family's West Bank home went off in his hands.

Last year, arsonists burst into a Jerusalem church used by Messianic Jews and set the building on fire, raising suspicions that Jewish extremists were behind the attack. No one claimed responsibility, but the same church was burned down 25 years ago by ultra-Orthodox Jewish extremists.

Rabbi Bans the Cross, Again

Witness the "love" and "tolerance" expressed by the "elder brother" rabbis for Christians in times and places where they hold authority. Due to conditioning through relentless bombardment with propaganda the average reader will perceive this rabbi's ban on the cross to be a "justifiable emotional reaction" to "centuries of Christian persecution." The truth is that the rabbis rule that the cross is an idolatrous symbol which must be blotted out along with the name and memory of Jesus Christ and that this was their teaching even when Christians had no power and were being persecuted by the synagogue.

This rabbinic ban on the cross will likely be accommodated by Catholic prelates, even as they allow the rabbis to preach the Noahide anti-gospel at Catholic parishes, schools and universities. Catholic-"Jewish" dialogue is a farcical, one-way street, as is everything else involving rabbis.

Irish Christian leaders barred from Western Wall for wearing crosses

The rabbi of the Western Wall says officials barred visiting Irish church leaders from praying there because they were wearing crosses.

Roman Catholic Cardinal Sean Brady, Church of Ireland Archbishop Alan Harper and Presbyterian and Methodist Moderators John Finlay and Roy Cooper arrived Thursday at the wall in the Old City of Jerusalem without informing Israeli authorities, Brady told the Irish broadcast network RTE.

"We encountered some difficulty in gaining access. There was a difficulty about us wearing our crosses," he said. "We were under constraints of time... and we decided to move on."

The site's rabbi, Shmuel Rabinowitz, said all must respect its sanctity to Jews. "They were asked to remove the crosses, but they refused," he said.

These words that Benedict will offer are worth less than nothing. It is akin to arriving at the scene of an inferno and offering "forceful" words against it as if words alone might extinguish the flames. The time is long past for action to be taken, but we see no action. On matters concerning "antisemitism" we see action. We see Church documents produced, Vatican commissions formed, changes in liturgy, theology, seminary training, catechetical material and methods, etc., etc., etc. In the course of 40 years we have seen virtually every aspect of the 2000 year-old Catholic tradition changed according to Judaic sensibilities for the non-cause of "preventing another 'Holocaust'."

But there is a real holocaust taking place and it really is being perpetrated by priests and bishops--upon Catholic children. Here we see no substantial action for prevention of future holocausts of sex abuse against children. Indeed, we do see billions of dollars paid out to victims after the fact, causing parishes to close down and enriching the lawyers, but as for preventive measures, policy changes and punishment of responsible authorities, we see nothing.

How is it that nonsensical Judaic concerns receive immediate, constant, sweeping Vatican actions while the victimization of Catholic children receives only words? Jesus said it is by their fruits that you will know them. Benedict's "forceful" words are worse than useless. Based upon the complete lack of fruits behind them--even while "reconciliation" with "The Jews" simultaneously produces an overabundance of rotten fruit--they're a mockery.

An eye for an eye? The rabbis have no use for that Biblical stuff. That's what the Old Testament says. It's the Talmud that the rabbis draw their racist, genocidal teachings lacking any sense of proportion from, as Rabbi Eliyahu demonstrates so clearly.

This is the religion of the "elder brothers in the faith" whom Benedict says Christians must be "reconciled" with. What he is attempting to bring about can only be seen as a diabolical conjunction of opposites.

Kosher Sex Predators

Where are the multi-million dollar lawsuits? The front page New York Times exposes? This report says that the "Ultra-Orthodox" are a closed community and that's why these incidents are rarely reported and prosecuted, but given the heavy Judaic presence in the mainstream press and the lack of reporting on this problem in that same press, it seems that the Judaic community as a whole is acting as a closed community on this matter. They never fail to report on Catholic sex abuse cases, however.

Far from being an esoteric teaching of rabbinic Judaism, the willing acceptance for responsibility for the Crucifixion of Jesus is openly manifested in times and places where Orthodox Judaic persons have dominance. It is not uncommon to hear differing variations of the insulting threat, "Take your Jesus down from the cross and we'll crucify him again," or, "If Jesus comes back we'll kill him again," or, "We killed Jesus and we'll kill you too."

The human rights organization B'Tselem on Monday said in a statement that more than half of the Palestinians killed in the Gaza Strip in Israel Defense Forces operations in recent days did not take an active part in the fighting. This statement came after the IDF Chief of Staff issued a statement saying that 90 percent of those killed were in fact armed militants.

In their statement, B'Tselem outlined a string of incidents in which IDF allegedly killed innocent bystanders in the course of military operations aimed at battling the escalating rocket fire from the Gaza Strip into southern Israel.

According to data gathered by B'Tselem, 106 Palestinians were killed between February 27 and march 3. Fifty four of them were civilians who didn't take part in the fighting, and 25 were under 18, the statement said.

he human rights group cites as an example an incident that occurred on Thursday, in which four children were killed and two others were wounded in an Israel Air Force strike targeting rocket launchers. The children had been playing soccer in a street east of the Jabaliya refugee camp. The organization's inquiry into the incident revealed that the Qassam launcher may have been situated 100 meters from the site of the strike, and no militants were harmed in the strike.

Another incident cited by B'Tselem is the death of a brother and sister aged 16 and 17 while they were watching the violence from the window of their home east of Jabaliya. According to witnesses, the two were shot in the head and the chest.

B'Tselem expressed concern over the high number of civilians, especially children, who have been killed recently in the Gaza Strip. "Israel has a right to defend its citizens from rockets, which are in themselves a war crime, and it is what it must do," the organization wrote. "Israel must do so within the confines of the law, which must conform to the criteria of differentiation and proportionality as defined by international humanitarian law."

Chai Center rabbi explains 'off the handle' e-mails

The Chai Center presents itself as an open and non-judgmental address for Jews looking to learn more about Judaism, to have an authentic Jewish experience, or simply to meet other Jews.

"All our activities are for Conservative, Reform, nonaffiliates, & any Jew that moves! They require no prior background for your total enjoyment," the center's tagline reads.

Founded and run by the unpredictable and colorful Rabbi Shlomo Schwartz, best known as just Schwartzie, the Chai Center makes Judaism accessible and hip for the estimated 10,000 to 15,000 Jews who attend its events every year.

At 62, Schwartzie is enormously popular and beloved. A defiantly independent and off-beat character, he can schmooze it up with Hollywood types or go green with millennial do-gooders. His long white beard gives him a look that is both rabbinic and grandfatherly; his untethered vernacular and quirky style make it clear he fits no mold.

His hallmark event is Dinner for 60 Strangers, which he and his wife, Olivia, host every Friday night in their home.

And it was that Shabbat event that attracted Jamie Katz (not her real name), a 42-year-old paralegal and entrepreneur.

Katz was on an emotional mission to deepen her Jewish identity. When her mother was dying a year ago, she had a last request for her daughter: Go explore your Jewish heritage. Join a temple, find a Jewish man.

Jamie's mother, who was Japanese, had converted to Judaism some 45 years before, when she married Jamie's father. Katz and her two brothers had studied at Temple Emanuel religious school in Beverly Hills, and while she says she never felt like she completely fit in as a Japanese Jew, she never considered herself anything but Jewish.

A few weeks ago a friend told her about the Chai Center, so she went online and registered for the Shabbat dinner at the Schwartzes' home. The food was great, the atmosphere was warm and inviting, and Katz felt as if she belonged.

The following Sunday, however, she received an e-mail from Schwartzie that felt like a verbal punch in the gut:

"Altho yr surname is [Katz] & U spk Yiddish, thts still does not make yr mother's NON Orthodox 'conversion' kosher [valid]," he wrote to her. "Tht means tht if U ever met a Jewish man who's family Rabbi was Orthodox or, who wanted 2 get married in Israel, U could NOT! ... I appreciate tht U were 'brought up' as a Jew (even tho yr father 'married' out of the faith ), but U may not come 2 any more Chai Center events.... We consider INTERMARRAIGE a grt tragedy for the Jewish ppl, even if the non Jewish person in the equation thinks & feels Jewish.... In the eyes of Al-mighty G*d, it's important 4 U NOT 2 date Jewish men. The result of which could, G-d forbid, end in grt tragedy, 4 both of U."

Shocked and pained, Katz wrote back to Schwartzie, reiterating her commitment to Judaism. In the escalating exchange, Schwartzie castigated Katz's late father for choosing to marry a non-Jew, and about Katz's recently deceased mother, he wrote: "She might have been agrt mother, but as a 'Jewish' mother she was a miserable failure! In truth she really was not a FAILURE as a Jew; since, in the eyes of G-d (where it COUNTS) she wasn't!"

Katz was crushed.

"I thought I would find a safe haven in the Jewish community, and I've been shunned by my own people," said Katz, sobbing into the phone just hours after she received Schwartzie's second missive. "I feel embarrassed and ashamed, like I don't belong and I'm not worthy."

Katz is not the only recipient of such letters from Schwartzie. The Journal has learned that this maverick wizard of outreach has directed angry e-mails to other women he perceives as threats to his mission toward ensuring that Jews marry Jews and thus guarantee the continuation of a 4,000-year chain of tradition.

In addition to Katz, two other women independently sent to the Jewish Journal samples of Schwartzie's letters -- rambling e-mails in large print, heavy with text-message shorthand punctuated with varied text colors, point sizes and fonts. One recipient, who is not Jewish, attended his Rosh Hashanah services last fall with a Jewish friend and followed up by sending the rabbi a question about her Jewish ex-boyfriend. Another woman, who is Jewish, brought a non-Jewish man to Schwartzie's seder in 2005. Filled with foul language and content that can easily be construed as bigoted, sexist and threatening, the e-mails seem to contradict the rabbi's aura of openness and non-judgmental warmth.

In a face-to-face interview, Schwartzie stood his ground when first confronted with the letters. He said that while he regretted language that may have been perceived as a personal attack, he stood by his goal of sounding an intentionally vicious warning to ward off non-Jews who might infiltrate his events in the hopes of ensnaring a Jewish partner and eventually intermarrying.

"It's destroying Jewish people," he said, explaining his visceral abhorrence of intermarriage. "This is not just a sin and you shouldn't do it, like don't eat lobster."

Fixing his blue eyes in a fierce stare, he tried to convey the vehemence of what he wants to get across to the women he calls "shiksas": "You are a f---ing Nazi. You are killing a Jew and I hate you for that and I'll piss on your grave. You are not going to kill my Jews."

In follow-up e-mails, the rabbi offered qualified apologies for his letters.

"My reaction shdnt have been on a personal but more correctly, on an IMpersonal level. It matters not the kind of person tht the Non Jew is. So anythig directed @ the Person of the non Jew is wrong. For tht I declare tht I was mistaken & will personally apologize 2 those tht took it personally," he wrote in an e-mail. As of press time, none of the women had heard from Schwartzie.
