Schönborn: Vatican to Level Core Principles of Dialogue and "Reintegration" with SSPX

What a mockery. The Catholic-Jewish relations racket is rigidly anchored in bedrock while the Gospel and perennial Catholic teachings shift in the sands.

Vatican commission to draw red lines for ultra-traditionalists

Earth Times

Vienna - The Vatican is set to tell a rebel ultra- traditional Catholic group that the Church's core values and its relations with Judaism are not negotiable, Austrian Cardinal Christoph Schoenborn said in an interview published on Saturday. Earlier this year, the Catholic leadership in Rome drew criticism from within and outside the Church for lifting excommunication orders against bishops of the controversial Society of Saint Pius X (SSPX), including British-born Richard Williamson who has denied the scale of the Nazi mass murder of Jews.

In the coming days, a recently restructured church commission would meet the renegades, the cardinal and Vienna archbishop told the Passauer Neue Presse.

Rome would not give the group a "free pass," and Pope Benedict XVI was striving to "get a group of Catholics which has parted from the Church back into the boat," said Schoenborn, who is a member of several Vatican bodies.

The non-negotiable positions to be set out to the Pius Society include the Church's positions towards the Jewish faith, other non- Christian religions as well as Christian faiths, and towards religious freedom as a fundamental human right, according to Schoenborn.

In June, the pope placed the commission under the authority of the Holy See's main disciplinary watchdog body, after it had drawn criticism for its handling of the SSPX.

SSPX members are currently barred from official roles within the church unless they agree to fully abide with its teachings.

Such teachings include the so-called Second Vatican Council reforms of the 1960s, which sought to modernize the Church.

"Madonna" Mocks Blessed Mother, Prostrates Herself Before Auschwitz

In Poland, "Madonna" will mock the Blessed Mother of Jesus and then fall on her knees before the 'Holocaust' idol:

Madonna has upset some believers in devoutly Roman Catholic Poland by timing her Polish debut concert to coincide with the day when Christians mark the Virgin Mary's ascension to heaven ...

... As well as her Warsaw concert, the singer is also expected to pay a visit to the former Nazi death camp of Auschwitz in southern Poland where up to 1.5 million people, mostly Jews, perished during World War Two.

Madonna is a follower of the Kabbalah, a mystical strand of Judaism, though she is not Jewish and was raised as a Catholic.

But this is nothing in comparison to Pope JPII who during a visit to Poland mocked Calvary and knelt before Auschwitz saying, "I kneel at this Golgotha of the modern world."

Will Benedict's "Pilgrimage" Boost "Israel's" Image or Destroy His Own?

On May 11, 2009 at Yad Vashem "Holocaust" Memorial Temple, Pope Benedict said "May the names of these victims never perish! May their suffering never be denied, belittled, or forgotten!" What a boon for the Israelis who need so desperately for the suffering they've caused so many Palestinians outside the gates of Yad Vashem to be minimized, denied and forgotten.

Or, will this shameful act result, rather, in Benedict sharing in counterfeit Israel's infamy as it should?

Priest, Rabbi trace Progress of "Judeo-Christian" Fraud

Priest, Rabbi trace Jewish-Christian relations' progress

By Kathleen Ogle - The Catholic Spirit

October 2, 2008

NEW BRUNSWICK - A Catholic priest and a Jewish rabbi, both deeply engaged in the promotion of Jewish-Christian dialogue, discussed the transformation in relations between the two faith traditions and identified areas where additional progress is necessary Sept. 21 at the Douglas Campus Center.

The program was sponsored by the Allen and Joan Bildner Center for the Study of Jewish Life in cooperation with the Diocese of Metuchen. Yael Zerubavel, director of the Bildner Center, served as moderator.

Characterizing the transformation of relations between the two faiths as one of the most remarkable and dramatic events of the 20th century, Father John Pawlikowski, director of Catholic-Jewish studies at the University of Chicago, and Rabbi Eugene Korn, scholar of Jewish ethics and Jewish-Christian relations, summarized the development of Jewish-Christian relations from their different perspectives.

Both agreed that if Jews and Christians could achieve reconciliation and peace then peace is possible between any two people.

“It is really a great source of hope for all of us that if a formerly antagonistic relationship can be transformed then other antagonistic relationships … can also be transformed and that we can move from a situation of human enmity to a situation of human solidarity and human cooperation,” Father Pawlikowski said.

Father Pawlikowski discussed various documents that addressed Jewish-Catholic relations beginning with the Second Vatican Council’s Nostra Aetate (Declaration on the Relation of the Church to Non-Christian Religions) and continuing through the work of Popes John Paul II and Benedict XVI.

He cited the support of the American bishops for Nostra Aetate, claiming that the document would “never have seen the light of day if it were not for the very strong and almost universal support given it by the American episcopal delegation at Vatican II.”

He said the bishops’ support was rooted in the work of the National Catholic Welfare Conference in the 1930s and 40s which brought several Jewish and Christian organizations together to collaborate in the advancement of the working class.

The American bishops were also influenced by a study of religious textbooks, which “showed that it was impossible for Catholic Christianity or any form of Christianity to express its own self-identity without reference to Jews and Judaism.”

Although there was opposition to Nostra Aetate from some Catholic conservatives as well as bishops in Arab countries, Popes John XXIII and Paul VI were committed to seeing the document through the council, Father Pawlikowski said.

The most important statement in the document, the priest said, was that Jews could not be held collectively responsible for the death of Christ.

“In removing that theocide charge, it really removed all the layers of theological understanding of the Christian-Jewish relationship that had permeated Christianity for centuries,” he said, including the idea that Jews had been expelled from a covenantal relationship because of theocide and that Jews were to be perpetually homeless people wandering the earth, never to have a state of their own, as punishment for rejecting Christ.

The council also said that Jews remained a part of the covenantal tradition, and emphasized Jesus’ identity as a Jew and his positive relationship with Judaism.

“Those three pillars established by the council have continued to be the basic pillars on which the church, scholars, educators have built a deeper understanding of the Christian/Catholic-Jewish relationship,” Father Pawlikowski said.

Referring to recent biblical scholarship which has concluded that the process of separation between Jews and Christians was longer and more complex than initially thought, Father Pawlikowski said, “our whole picture of the first few centuries of the Jewish-Christian relationship is undergoing profound transformation.”

To help attendees understand the depth of the transformation in the relationship between Jews and Christians, Rabbi Korn recalled examples from the end of the 19th century and beginning of the 20th century in which Vatican publications and popes refused to support the Jewish return to Zion.

He contrasted those examples with Pope John Paul II’s visit to Israel when he met with the Jewish state’s president and chief rabbis and prayed at the Western Wall “for the welfare of the Jewish people as his elder brothers who remain the people of God’s covenant.”

He went on to discuss how three events in particular contributed to the transformation: the Holocaust, the establishment of the state of Israel, and the Second Vatican Council’s proclamation, Nostra Aetate.

While the Holocaust and Nazism were not a Christian doctrine, ideology or movement, they took place in the “heart of Christian Europe,” Rabbi Korn said.

“One can’t say with any integrity that Hitler, or Goebbels or Eichmann were in any way Christians in the religious sense, in the doctrinal sense. But the people who ran the crematory at Aushwitz were Christians, who went to Mass, who were schooled in Christian theology and whose attitudes toward Jews were shaped by Christian teachings,” he continued.

The traditional Christian teaching about Jews, which later came to be known as supercessionalism, held that Christianity had replaced Judaism, that the church was the new Israel that was in covenant with God and that Judaism or the Old Testament was no longer valid, the rabbi explained.

An entire tradition of church literature not only rejected Judaism but demonized Jews and led to persecution of Jews and anti-Semitism, Rabbi Korn said.

He cited theologians who said that such literature was significant in the ready acceptance of Christian Europe to extermination of the Jewish people.

“Christian theology was not sufficient condition for the final solution but it may have been a necessary component to Nazism,” he said.

As the Christian world reflected on the unimaginable evil of the Holocaust, the seed was planted for the Christian reappraisal of the history and its theology of the Jews, he said.

“Something in the Christian world had gone undeniably wrong and Christian thinkers recoiled from what had been wrought,” Rabbi Korn said. “Over the past 40 years this process of reassessment has spawned a discussion that is no less remarkable for its content than its form.”

He referred to Catholic theologian Sister Mary Boise who dubbed the transformation in contemporary Christian thinking regarding Jews and Judaism as the 6 Rs: repudiation of anti-Semitism, rejection of the charge of theocide, repentance after the Shoah, recognition of Israel, review of teaching about Jews and Judaism and rethinking about proselytizing Jews.

The establishment of state of Israel in 1948 not only gave the Jewish people hope for survival after the Holocaust but “it changed the image of status of the Jew in the world,” he said.

“The establishment of statehood I believe helped level the playing field between Jews and the rest of the world including the Vatican.”

Rabbi Korn said the Vatican, which is both the head of the Catholic Church and a city-state as well, understands that that which is political has spiritual implications for the status and recognition of the Catholic Church.

“Similarly statehood for the Jews transformed the way the world began to look at Jews. No longer vulnerable but powerful, having the right of self defense, having some clout both politically and militarily and need to be taken seriously,” he said.

Further, Rabbi Korn said that Jewish statehood constituted the Jewish return to the land of the covenant that was promised in the Bible, which reinforced the notion that the covenant between Abraham and his descendents on one hand and God on the other hand was still alive. This was the basis for the Christian covenant and the basis for the Jewish covenant.

Rabbi Korn said the Vatican’s proclamation Nostra Aetate “proved to be a point of departure for the Christian journey from which there will be no return.”

Benedict to Offer Words in Response to Clerical Sex Abuse

Quoting Cardinal George, Spero News writes:

The Church is still recovering from the scandal surrounding the sexual abuse of children by priests and other Church officials. It's estimated that the Church has paid out $1.5 billion in settlements to abuse victims. Cardinal George says he expects Pope Benedict to address the issue during his visit.

"It bothers him immensely that children have been abused by priests or bishops," he said. "This is a complete betrayal of our own office and of Jesus Christ, and of our Catholic people. He's very clear on that, and I imagine he'll express it forcefully." ("Pope to condemn child abuse by priests, bishops" Kent Klein, Spero News, April 07, 2008)

http://www.speroforum.com/site/article.asp?id=14950

These words that Benedict will offer are worth less than nothing. It is akin to arriving at the scene of an inferno and offering "forceful" words against it as if words alone might extinguish the flames. The time is long past for action to be taken, but we see no action. On matters concerning "antisemitism" we see action. We see Church documents produced, Vatican commissions formed, changes in liturgy, theology, seminary training, catechetical material and methods, etc., etc., etc. In the course of 40 years we have seen virtually every aspect of the 2000 year-old Catholic tradition changed according to Judaic sensibilities for the non-cause of "preventing another 'Holocaust'."

But there is a real holocaust taking place and it really is being perpetrated by priests and bishops--upon Catholic children. Here we see no substantial action for prevention of future holocausts of sex abuse against children. Indeed, we do see billions of dollars paid out to victims after the fact, causing parishes to close down and enriching the lawyers, but as for preventive measures, policy changes and punishment of responsible authorities, we see nothing.

How is it that nonsensical Judaic concerns receive immediate, constant, sweeping Vatican actions while the victimization of Catholic children receives only words? Jesus said it is by their fruits that you will know them. Benedict's "forceful" words are worse than useless. Based upon the complete lack of fruits behind them--even while "reconciliation" with "The Jews" simultaneously produces an overabundance of rotten fruit--they're a mockery.

Benedict Praises St. Cyril of Alexandria

Continuing with Benedict's series of talks on the Church Fathers, the latest talk addressing Church Doctor, St. Cyril of Alexandria:

Today, continuing our journey in the footsteps of the Fathers of the Church, we meet a great figure: St. Cyril of Alexandria. Linked to the Christological controversy that led to the Council of Ephesus in 431, and the last noteworthy representative of the Alexandrian tradition, Cyril was later defined in the East as the “custodian of accuracy” -- in other words, a guardian of the true faith -- and even the “seal of all the Fathers."

These ancient expressions manifest something that is, in fact, characteristic of Cyril, that is, the constant references the bishop of Alexandria makes to preceding ecclesiastical authorities -- including, above all, Athanasius -- with the goal of showing the continuity of his own theology with tradition.

Cyril took care to ensure that his theology was firmly situated within the tradition of the Church, by which he sees the guarantee of continuity with the Apostles and with Christ himself ...

If only the same could be said for Benedict. Instead we hear praises for St. Cyril's orthodoxy out of one side of Benedict's mouth and the most heterodox theological speculations imaginable out of the other. Let us consider St. Cyril's approach to religious relations with the "Jews" in contrast to that of Benedict XVI:

[St. Cyril] drove out of Alexandria the Jews, who had formed a flourishing community there since Alexander the Great. But they had caused tumults and had massacred the Christians, to defend whom Cyril himself assembled a mob. This may have been the only possible defence, since the Prefect of Egypt, Orestes, who was very angry at the expulsion of the Jews was also jealous of the power of Cyril, which certainly rivaled his own. Five hundred monks came down from Nitria to defend the patriarch. In a disturbance which arose, Orestes was wounded in the head by a stone thrown by a monk named Ammonius. The prefect had Ammonius tortured to death, and the young and fiery patriarch honoured his remains for a time as those of a martyr. The Alexandians were always riotous as we learn from Socrates (VII, vii) and from St. Cyril himself (Hom. for Easter, 419). (Catholic Encyclopedia, St. Cyril of Alexandria)

http://www.zenit.org/article-20662?l=english

It should also be mentioned that St. Cyril of Alexandria lived during the time that the emperor Julian made a project of rebuilding the Temple in Jerusalem in an attempt to overturn Christianity. The plan ended in failure and various historians from that period record that this was due to supernatural intervention. Needless to say, St. Cyril was no supporter of this early Zionist movement.

JPII's Respect for Talmudic Khazars of ADL of B'nai B'rith Based In Mysterious Spiritual Link

ADDRESS OF POPE JOHN PAUL II
TO THE INTERNATIONAL LEADERS
OF THE «ANTI-DEFAMATION LEAGUE OF B'NAI B'RITH»
(SONS OF THE ALLIANCE)

Thursday, 2 March 1984

Dear friends,

i am very happy to receive you here in the Vatican. You are a group of national and international leaders of the well-known Jewish Association, based in the United States, but active in many parts of the world, including Rome itself, the Anti-Defamation League of B’nai B’rith. You are also closely related with the Commission for Religious Relations with Judaism, founded ten years ago by Paul VI for the purpose of fostering relations, at the level of our respective faith commitment, between the Catholic Church and the Jewish Community.

The mere fact of your visit to me, for which I am grateful, is in itself a proof of the constant development and deepening of such relations. Indeed, when one looks back to the years before the Second Vatican Council and its Declaration "Nostra Aetate" and tries to encompass the work done since, one has the feeling that the Lord has done "great things" for us (cf. Luc 1, 49). Therefore we are called to join in a heartfelt act of thanksgiving to God. The opening verse of Psalm 133 is appropriate: "How good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity."

... the respect we speak of is based on the mysterious spiritual link (cf. Nostra Aetate, 4) which brings us close together ...

... We certainly try to know each other better and to understand better our respective distinctive identity and the close spiritual link between us ...

Benedict Recommends Catechesis of St. Cyril

Catholic News Agency reports:

The Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI, greeted the thousands of pilgrims gathered in the Vatican’s Paul VI auditorium this morning, continuing his cycle of catechesis on the Church Fathers by commenting on a master of catechisis himself - St. Cyril of Jerusalem. (Pope Benedict XVI focuses on St. Cyril: a master of Catechesis, Catholic News Agency, Jun 27, 2007)

http://www.catholicnewsagency.com/new.php?n=9734

A sample of St. Cyril's catechesis on the topic of Catholic-Jewish relations:

"Heed not therefore what the Jews say, but what the Prophets say. Do you wonder that they who stoned and slew the Prophets, set at nought the Prophets' words?" (St. Cyril of Jerusalem, Catechetical Lecture 10;2)

http://www.newadvent.org/fathers/310110.htm

Now compare that teaching from one of the great Church Doctors, St. Cyril, with this teaching from Benedict XVI:

... Christians can and ought to admit that the Jewish reading of the Bible is a possible one ...

... Christians can, nonetheless, learn much from Jewish exegesis practised for more than two thousand years ...

(The Jewish People and their Sacred Scriptures in the Christian Bible, Pontifical Biblical Commission, Vatican, May 24th, 2001)

... Jewish biblical scholarship in all its richness, from its origins in antiquity down to the present day, is an asset of the highest value for the exegesis of both Testaments ...

(The Interpretation of the Bible in the Church, Pontifical Biblical Commission, Vatican, March 18, 1994)

Quite obviously, these diametrically opposed positions can't both be correct. Since Cyril's position is virtually a verbatim quote of Christ's words in the Gospel and since Benedict's position has no scriptural support, and is in fact completely at variance with the Gospel, I'd say it's quite simple to tell which position is incorrect.

That's good advice from Benedict though, regarding the study of St. Cyril. I do hope that people will look to the Church Father, Cyril and the other Church Fathers as well and learn what a mockery Benedict's "elder brothers in the faith" mantra truly is.

It's also worth noting St. Cyril's opposition to Zionism. Cyril lived in Jerusalem at the time that the Emperor Julian the Apostate attempted to falsify the prophesies of Jesus and Daniel by aiding the Jews in rebuilding the Temple of Jerusalem, a project which ended in failure reportedly due to supernatural causes. Cyril wrote that the Temple would remain in ruins as Christ prophesied until the Antichrist would attempt to rebuild it.
